August 4, 2023

I was excited to partner with various LAPD divisions that serve my district earlier this week for National Night Out.

National Night Out is a nationwide event that occurs annually the first Tuesday in August, meant to enhance the relationship between communities, neighbors and law enforcement by bringing people together. At our event at Northridge Park co-presented with LAPD Devonshire Division, dozens of local organizations, Neighborhood Councils and businesses came together to celebrate the community by providing information and resources, free activities for kids and a movie night in the park.

I am honored to represent a community that is engaged in getting to know their neighbors, giving back to the community and supporting our public safety partners whose job it is daily to keep our communities safe.

LEGISLATIVE UPDATES

This week Council approved my motion allocating an additional $170,000 to LAPD's Devonshire, Topanga and Valley Traffic Divisions to provide more police services within Council District 12.

I am committed to increasing public safety throughout Council District 12, and the funds I allocated will help LAPD combat crime and keep our neighborhoods safe.

CD12 COMMUNITY UPDATES

LADWP Outdoor Watering Update

After observing two-days-a-week outdoor watering restrictions for the past thirteen months, LADWP customers can begin watering outdoor landscapes for up to three-days-a-week. After experiencing a record snowpack, the return to the City's Phase 2 Emergency Water Conservation Ordinance was approved and effective July 27, 2023.

The return to three-days-a-week watering means customers with street addresses ending in odd-numbers may water on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays and customers with even-numbered street addresses may water on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays, before 9 a.m. or after 4 p.m., when the evaporation rate is appreciably lower than during the middle of the day.

Click here for more information about current watering restrictions and water conservation programs.

COMMUNITY SPOTLIGHT
West Valley Alliance

This week the CD12 community spotlight shines on the West Valley Alliance (WVA). Organized in 1999, the West Valley Alliance has been dedicated to weed abatement and graffiti removal in the San Fernando Valley making a positive impact on the neighborhoods served. With a mission to improve the lives of residents, WVA’s team works tirelessly to clean up and beautify our Valley communities.

In the aftermath of the unprecedented rainy season in 2023, WVA has provided heroic weed abatement services collecting over 3,000 bags of weeds and trash per month. They are working throughout the summer preparing for fire season and striving to get ahead of weed growth the Valley hasn’t seen in years.

Their graffiti removal program, supported by the City of Los Angeles Department of Public Works, serves the community seven days per week, supporting graffiti removal in 3,500 locations, and covering 100,000 square feet of graffiti per month.

West Valley Alliance is led by Daniel Ruiz, founder and CEO/President, who leads this community based organization implementing and developing programs that improve the quality of life for all of us who live and work in CD12. The organization is supported by various city departments, chambers of commerce, neighborhood councils, police divisions, local businesses, and of course local residents.

CD12 is proud of their partnership with WVA and is grateful for all they accomplish. West Valley Alliance is a 501C3 non profit based in Granada Hills.
