For the first time, the Southern California region has been placed under a tropical storm watch. While it remains uncertain if Hurricane Hilary will make landfall in California, a storm of this magnitude would bring powerful winds, rain, and potential flooding to the region. Below are some resources to help you stay prepared:

Public Information & Resources Additionally, the city's Urban Forestry Division and the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power have both placed emergency crews on standby. Wastewater Management is implementing its wet weather watch protocol from 8/20 to 8/21 and water reclamation plants, Clean Water Conveyance and Watershed Protection divisions will also be implementing their pre-storm preparation activities which include maximizing plant flows to relieve the collection system and placing additional staff on standby.

I urge you to stay vigilant over the coming days to minimize the impact this storm could potentially cause on our city and local communities.

West Nile Virus Alert

West Nile Virus has been detected in mosquitoes trapped in San Fernando Valley communities. West Nile Virus is transmitted to people and animals through the bite of an infected mosquito. Residents can do their part to reduce the threat of West Nile Virus by actively taking mosquito control measures: eliminate standing water, properly maintain pools and water features, wear insect repellent outdoors, and report neglected swimming pools to the Greater Los Angeles County Vector Control District. Click here for more information and prevention tips.

LADWP Outdoor Watering Update

After observing two-days-a-week outdoor watering restrictions for the past thirteen months, LADWP customers can begin watering outdoor landscapes for up to three-days-a-week. After experiencing a record snowpack, the return to the City's Phase 2 Emergency Water Conservation Ordinance was approved and effective July 27, 2023.

The return to three-days-a-week watering means customers with street addresses ending in odd numbers may water on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays and customers with even-numbered street addresses may water on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays, before 9 a.m. or after 4 p.m., when the evaporation rate is appreciably lower than during the middle of the day.

Click here for more information about current watering restrictions and water conservation programs.
