Addressing The RV Crisis

We all see and feel the impacts of RV dwellings across our city. And while these encampments present significant health and safety risks for local residents as well as the vehicle occupants, the city has been slow to offer meaningful interventions due to a number of challenges.
This week, I led two important steps in the right direction. First, my Vanlord motion, which prohibits individuals from using our streets to lease and sell RVs, passed unanimously in Council. The City Attorney will now draft an ordinance that will head back to City Council for consideration.

Second, I introduced a motion that would restrict oversized vehicles like RVs from parking around sensitive areas, like schools, daycare centers, parks, and homes. The proposal would also identify locations where such vehicles could park, with access to services, while the City continues to work on long-term solutions. This motion will now head to committee for discussion. You can submit your comments about the motion here.

I hear your concerns loud and clear, and I remain grateful for your patience and support as I fight for the responsible solutions and outcomes we all deserve.

Ballona Creek Interceptor Update

The Ballona Creek Interceptor continues to exceed expectations in its mission to protect our environment. On August 22, following Tropical Storm Hilary, the interceptor successfully removed 16,000 pounds of debris. Since its inauguration last October, the Interceptor has collected over 85 tons of waste.

Celebrating our Workers

This weekend we celebrate and honor the dedication of workers everywhere!

My dad was a member of Communication Workers of America throughout his working career, and my mom was a leader in the California School Employees Association for more than three decades. Their lessons and core principles of hard work, fair compensation, and accountable leadership resonate with me to this day.

Please note, our offices will be closed for Labor Day, resuming regular operations on Tuesday.

Park's Pick
This week's Park's Pick is the Getty Center. The Getty isn't just a museum; it's a cultural beacon, deeply committed to showcasing, conserving, and interpreting the world’s rich artistic heritage. The Getty Center stands as a testament to the importance of art in fostering a vibrant and informed community. Whether you're an art lover, a history buff, or just in search of a beautiful place to unwind, the Getty Center has something for everyone.
Adopt-A-Pet

Allow me to introduce you to our pet of the week: Kodo! Kodo is a delightful 5-year-old who tips the scales at 70 pounds. Not only is he a good boy who knows how to sit on command, but he's also a gentle soul when it comes to taking treats. His friendly demeanor and charming personality are sure to win you over in no time. Currently, Kodo is waiting for his forever home at our West LA Center.
