One of my focuses as your Councilmember is ensuring that the City of Los Angeles maintains its promise to residents when it comes to public safety. Earlier this week, I was pleased to vote in favor of approving a new four-year contract with the Los Angeles Police Department. This new contract will ensure the LAPD remains competitive in recruiting new police officers and will help retain officers by incentivizing longer tenure with the department.

As the LAPD works towards bringing the number of sworn officers currently on staff up to pre-pandemic numbers, these new benefits will serve to attract quality candidates to the department while also limiting how many officers leave the department to pursue other law enforcement opportunities.

The approval of this contract reaffirms our City’s commitment to public safety and ensures we are doing everything we can to keep Angelenos safe.

CD12 COMMUNITY UPDATES

Wages LA

At the end of 2022, the Bureau of Contract Administration was entrusted to help implement and enforce the Fair Work Week Ordinance (FWWO). The FWWO was put into place to promote the health, safety, and welfare of retail workers in the City by providing them with a more predictable work schedule that ensures stability for themselves and their families.

This ordinance applies to retail businesses in the City of Los Angeles with 300+ employees worldwide. Based on the Office of Finance’s Listing of Active Businesses dataset, as of April 2023, there are over 52,000 retail businesses in the City of Los Angeles that could potentially be impacted depending on the number of employees. West Nile Virus Alert

West Nile Virus has been detected in mosquitoes trapped in additional communities in the San Fernando Valley. West Nile Virus is transmitted to people and animals through the bite of an infected mosquito. Residents can do their part to reduce the threat of West Nile Virus by actively taking mosquito control measures: eliminate standing water, properly maintain pools and water features, wear insect repellent outdoors, and report neglected swimming pools to the Greater Los Angeles County Vector Control District. LADWP Outdoor Watering Update

After observing two-days-a-week outdoor watering restrictions for the past thirteen months, LADWP customers can begin watering outdoor landscapes for up to three-days-a-week. After experiencing a record snowpack, the return to the City's Phase 2 Emergency Water Conservation Ordinance was approved and effective July 27, 2023.

The return to three-days-a-week watering means customers with street addresses ending in odd numbers may water on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays and customers with even-numbered street addresses may water on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays, before 9 a.m. or after 4 p.m., when the evaporation rate is appreciably lower than during the middle of the day.

9/6 - Adult Gaming at Chatsworth Library
