Hey CD11,

This week at City Hall, I joined my colleagues in introducing a motion that would restore former LAMC 85.02, which the City Council allowed to expire in 2020. Section 85.02 regulates vehicle dwelling, and the City is long overdue on reviving pre-pandemic efforts to get unsafe and unsanitary vehicles out of our neighborhoods. Almost certainly, this effort will be a fight in Council, so stay tuned as we push this effort forward.

I led the Council in supporting a state bill that would provide up to 12 months of mortgage relief for homeowners impacted by the Palisades Fire – no late fees, no penalties, and no foreclosure proceedings. I know there are many families who desperately need this assistance, and I’m fighting to make sure victims get the help they need.

I also introduced a motion to reassign displaced crossing guards to their schools’ new campuses, where traffic impacts have doubled overnight, because kids’ safety must come first. That's also why I pushed in Transportation Committee to share the City's limited speed hump funding equally across Council districts, instead of spending it all in just a few places that would exclude the Westside.

The Rules Committee passed my resolution to install red curbs and “No Stopping” signs under the 90 freeway at Inglewood. That stretch has become a serious public safety concern and although we've drastically reduced the number of nuisance vehicles, we aren't done yet.

Council is in recess this week, so I'm spending the time in Lahaina meeting with government officials to learn more about their recovery, especially their environmental and ocean remediation efforts because we can all see with our own eyes the devastation the Palisades fire is causing in the Santa Monica Bay.

Have a good weekend, and I'll be back next week with more updates!

We covered a lot of ground – from major encampment cleanups in Venice and Brentwood to 41.18 signage going up in Westchester.
