Avenue Magazine Annual Best Neighbourhoods
Survey Is Now Open
The annual Avenue magazine Best Neighbourhoods Survey is now open online. Fill out the survey today to tell Avenue what makes your community great. The survey takes less than 10 minutes to complete and closes on Feb. 28, 2014.
You can find a link to the survey at http://www.avenuecalgary.com/survey.
The survey has two parts. The first asks which characteristics and amenities are most important in making a great neighbourhood. For example, survey respondents are asked to rate the importance of safety, friendliness of neighbours and walkability as well as the importance of having a grocery store, schools and parks, among other factors. The second part asks specific questions about your community and how it stacks up.
Avenue has partnered with Leger Marketing to gather the data and to create weighted criteria regarding what makes an excellent neighbourhood. After that, they also include objective third-party data, such as crime statistics, property values and other information, and crunch the numbers to create a ranking of Calgary's best neighbourhoods.
By taking the time to fill out the survey, you get to have a say in the results. Make sure to do so before the survey closes on Feb. 28, 2014, by visiting http://www.avenuecalgary.com/survey. Keep an eye out for the results in the August 2014 issue of Avenue magazine.
Help get the wheels turning on Skatepark Development
The City of Calgary wants your help! We are holding open houses for a 10-year skateboard plan to build up to 50 skateboard parks in the city. Come join us at one of the three open houses to provide your input and learn more about:
 |
- the overall skateboarding strategy and where we are in the process
- the consultants that are designing the skateparks
- communities that have been identified to receive a skatepark and why
- how this could impact you or your family
- modern skatepark design, construction, and the positive impact they have on communities
- how your community or region can get involved for selection of future parks
We are still in the proposal stage and no final site selection has been decided. Help carve out how we move forward.
Open House Options (all times are 5 PM to 8 PM):
Tuesday, January 28: Cardel Theatre – 180 Quarry Park Blvd SE
Wednesday, January 29: Edgemont Community Association – 33 Edgevalley Circle NW

Conversation Cafe
Older Adults to Gather in Community Hall on Wednesday January 29 at 1:00!
Please bring your ideas to a conversation about what older adults need and want in our community. We will meet in the “East Hall” of the Community Hall, 520 27 Ave. NE, at 1:00, enjoy some coffee and tea and a few sweets, and talk about what matters most to you. This event is being organized by Sidneyat Calgary Family Services after consulting with the Community Association Board. If you want more information or just to tell Sidney that you will be there, contact her at 403-705-7559 or sidneyc@calgaryfamily.org.
(We will be holding another conversation café on a Tuesday or Thursday afternoon in February and on one evening to accommodate the people who are not available on Wednesday afternoons.)
Munro Park – A New Vision!

The City of Calgary is giving Winston Heights-Mountview the opportunity to provide input into how we would like Munro Park to look and function in the future. Beginning with an initial “visioning” session on Feb. 19, residents can share their dreams of what the park could look like, their concerns about current park issues that could be addressed in a new plan, and their desires for amenities in the park. The design firm, IBI Group, will facilitate the visioning process and use the ideas collected to create some possible park plans.
On April 16, they will showcase those plans at an Open House. There, residents can review the conceptual plans and provide more input and direction to the consulting team. In May, IBI Group will use the guidance from the Open House to develop and present a Master Plan for Munro Park. This document will guide the City and the Community Association for future developments to the Park.
If you are interested in unlocking the potential of this large park on the south and west edge of our community, please come out to share your ideas. All events will be held at Winston Heights Community Hall, starting at 7 p.m.
