Too Much Stuff (AKA Hoarding)
Jump ahead a few weeks now... So, it’s January 2 nd, the holidays are over. You look around your house to find that you have now acquired a lot more stuff, not all of it useful or desired. Let’s face it; many of us don’t need more THINGS. We often have trouble getting rid of the possessions we already have.
Sometimes we just don’t want to upset Great-Aunt Hilda who comes once a year, so we leave the “lovely” bauble she gave us 10 years ago on the mantelpiece. Other times we hold on to things as a way to stay connected to people who are no longer with us even though we don’t really use, like or need the items.
Alina Frank wrote this great article outlining her work with two clients who were hoarding. I know that you’re saying, “I’m not a hoarder” but maybe when you read the article you might recognize some of your own reasons for buying or accumulating objects that you don’t really need. Even if it's to a lesser extent, it's worth looking at.
Maybe it’s time to let go. It’s a very freeing experience, living with less.
