McDougal Minute

I known all week I need to try to summarize my week at Hoosier Burn Camp for the dozens of my loyal readers. But again and again, the words are failing me. I can really only say it was tough, fantastic, rewarding, life-changing, hilarious - in short, everything that makes camp "Camp" and causes it to occupy a very special part of so many people's hearts. There's nothing I can say that can speak to the resilience of the kids, the joy they bring to each other's lives, and the talent of my fellow volunteers who give so much of themselves to ensure those kids have will have camp's support for their whole childhood. It was an important week of my life and I'm proud to be part of the family.

On the lighter side, I rode on the top of a fire "apparatus" (woe to you if you call it a truck), made one zillion yarn pom-poms in my Fun with Yarn! personal enrichment group, and managed to tip a canoe in three inches of water. Wouldn't want you to think I take myself too seriously now!

Look What I Made

Camp ends on a Friday and gives you a few days back home to get back into the groove. All I could really manage on Saturday was to nap, watch Rom Coms on HBO and pull out the simplest project I had going.

This Hudson Bay Blanket shawl was a little brainstorm I had last year. I wanted to knit something Hudson Bay-inspired but all the patterns I found were plain old garter-stitch blankets. They look great when they're finished, but me + blankets + garter stitch = snoozeapolooza. I liked the idea of this Stripe Study Shawl and thought - why not try this out? And I think it worked! I even added a little black "point" along the edge as a nod to the Point Blanket because neeeeerd.
I've Been Watching

Music and Lyrics
I've been doing a lot of laundry and old Rom Coms make the perfect background TV. This one is charming and I forgot that Jason Street is in the music video at the beginning. Can't stop singing the dumb songs in it, either.

The Wedding Singer
One of my not-so-secret favorite movies. Don't you talk to Billy Idol that way!!!
Ear Buds

I have SO MANY PODCASTS to catch up on this week, so I thought I'd do another single shout out. Sampler from Gimlet is a great way to learn about new podcasts and hear clips tailored to different special guests. The episode with Kid Fury and Crissle from The Read is particularly great because their reactions make everything better.
