STH students and faculty said “Good-bye Spring, Hello Summer!” at their annual CLASS SHARINGS held this year at the Old First Reformed Church. Students of all ages performed with their classes to packed audiences of family and friends in four different shows which highlighted the diversity, talent and creative spirit that is Spoke the Hub Dancing!

DAILY MODERN DANCE & BALLET TECHNIQUE CLASSES
OPEN TO YOUNG DANCERS & ADULTS THIS AUGUST

STH invites dancers of all ages to take daily dance technique classes with us every morning for three weeks August 8-26 at Gowanus Arts.

Although these Beginner/Intermediate level technique classes will be open to all, they will be specifically geared toward improving the technical skills of the young choreographers taking Elise Long’s three week DIY Dance Intensive. Dancers with some previous dance training are also welcome to join the classes -- take class every day for the exercise, because you love to dance, or just as a dancer’s "maintenance" class close to home! 

Guest instructors will include:
Sara Barney, Janet Charleston, Faith Kimberling, Stephanie Van Doren and Jess Grippo among others.

STH'S ANNUAL FALL OPEN HOUSE & MINI SAMPLE CLASSES: SEPTEMBER 10 & 11

Join us for STH's two-day Open House and FREE Sample Mini-Classes, Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 10th & 11th, at the Spoke the Hub Re:Creation Center, 748 Union Street @ 6th Avenue. Mini-classes for both kids and adults are 30 minutes in length. Sample class sizes are limited - first come, first served. BANDWAGON PERFORMANCE WORKSHOPS (ALL AGES)
with Elise Long 

Elise Long offers a new inter-generational improvisation/performance workshop for all uninhibited movers, 8 to 108 years old. Participants will collaborate on and perform large community dance works directed by Ms. Long to be performed at various community functions throughout the year. Additionally, participants can also create their own original works to be performed in their own concerts twice each year. Professional performers are also very welcome to join, so jump on the bandwagon and be part of STH’s new gypsy band of movers and shakers!

BROADWAY DANCE 
w/ Doreen Miranda

This upbeat class teaches Broadway-style jazz choreography and show-stopping stage presence with a focus on learning song-and-dance numbers from a variety of musical productions, past and present.

INTRO TO TAP
w/ Christy Yin

An introductory tap course designed for the student with no previous tap experience. Students will learn the vocabulary and rhythms of basic tap steps and develop choreography to diverse types of music. Body percussion will also be explored.  

ACTORS’ PERFORMANCE ENSEMBLE WORKSHOP 
w/ Blowout Theatre

Serious young thespians are invited to join this actors’ ensemble which will mount and present scenes, one act plays and other classical/ contemporary plays throughout the year.

SMARTY PENS:
Where Digital-Natives Write
w/ Deepali Srivastava

A multimedia journalism workshop for kids! Children will interview and investigate, use digital cameras, and publish stories. The unfiltered, unbiased, and well written copy will be presented in an online blog. 

KUNDALINI YOGA & MEDITATION
with Donnaldson Brown

An uplifting blend of spiritual and physical practices that incorporates movement, dynamic breathing techniques, meditation, and the chanting of mantras. The goal is to build physical vitality and increase consciousness.

MODERN DANCE & IMPROV (Adults/Teens) 

This open level class taught by veteran dance pros in a relaxed atmosphere is for people with some previous dance training who want to maintain or expand their own technical range as well as to stay in shape and just have good clean fun dancing in a wide open space to great music with other like-minded dance enthusiasts.

DANCE SCHOLARSHIP AUDITIONS (AGES 8 and up)

STH will hold "in class" auditions for scholarships, as well as teen work/study internships, the first week of Fall Classes, September 12 -17.

Scholarship, work/study, and STH Young Artists Dance/Theater applicants can take any classes they are interested in the first week (space permitting) and will be assessed by the instructor on their "readiness" for that particular class and level. Final award decisions will be based on both merit and financial need. Young artists of color are particularly encouraged to apply.

FALL ENCORE PERFORMANCE @ ART SLOPE FESTIVAL 

Young Artists from Camp Gowanee’s August Summer Dance Intensive and Masterpiece Theater programs will give Encore Performances of their summer camp concerts during the Park Slope Civic Council’s first Art Slope Festival in September. STH Young Artists’ Encore Performances will be held at the Spoke the Hub Re:Creation Center on Sunday September 17 and 25 at 2:00pm.  Also enjoy Camp Gowanee student art exhibit on display at the same venue.

GOWANUS ARTS

OLD KEYS & WATCHES WANTED FOR NEW STH MOSAIC

STH is seeking donations of keys, watches, waterproof clock faces and any other ¼ thick “treasures” made of metal, ceramic, stone, glass, shell or fiberglass to add to the “treasure” mix of our new upcoming mosaics. 

Make a donation of $150 to have you or your family’s name added to an original Claireware tile which will be imbedded in the floor at the “new” Gowanus in the upcoming renovation!

ATTENTION PERFORMERS & FREELANCE TEACHING ARTISTS:
Longer Term Shared Teaching, Rehearsal and Performance Spaces  @ Gowanus Beginning Fall 2016:

STH will have three large dance and performance spaces plus one non-movement space available to share next Fall. STH is currently accepting space requests and proposals for long-ish term space shares from teaching artists, independent artists, performance groups and other not-for-profits who might need large, open meeting space on a regular basis. Current continuing STH space users will have first choice of teaching times, days and spaces; newcomers will fill in remaining time slots thereafter. Minimum long-term share arrangement: 1 year. Please send an outline of what you need space for, how many people you anticipate working with, their ages, and your optimal space size, days, and times, to: space@spokethehub.org..
