World Elder Abuse Awareness Day celebrated its 10th year of existence on June 15, 2015 with its first Global Summit in Washington, DC and with events around the world.
Elder abuse stakeholders, policy makers and volunteers marked the occasion with a wide array of awareness-raising events throughout Canada. Hats off to WEAAD founder Dr. Elizabeth Podnieks, huge thanks to all participants and a special thank you for those who shared their commitment and efforts with us through social media!

Just in time for WEAAD, the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario released a new tool. Their Best Practice Success Kit contains accessible, easy-to-use resources to support healthcare professionals at all levels (practice, education, policy etc.) and offers an e-learning course, videos, pocket guides and more. Find out more.
The NWT Network recently released Networking to Prevent Older Adult Abuse: a comparative research study. The study aims to gauge the impact of community development measures taken by the NWT Network since 2010 on the awareness and response to elder abuse.

A recording of our webinar on Social Media to Support Practice is now available, along with the presentation slides and a complementary blog article and Q&A page to help you get started on social networks.

Janice Abbott (Atira Women's Resource Society) will be talking about women who are older and fleeing abuse, simultaneously raising awareness about the new tool Atira developed on the subject. Other presenters TBD. Registrations will open shortly this summer.

THE KNOWLEDGE-SHARING PROJECT
Our new Knowledge-sharing hub will officially launch on September 1, 2015. You can help us develop features and content on the site by sharing your tools, promising projects and upcoming events, or simply by telling your contacts about the hub and encouraging them to join the CNPEA.
To this extent the CNPEA has produced a short presentation introducing the project (in Powerpoint and PDF formats), as well as a brochure. Send us an email if you wish to receive a copy to share with your network.
Contributing to the hub requires little effort or digital expertise but your active support and involvement will help us develop our online knowledge-sharing platform. All your contributions will help us build a useful and up-to-date hub for the whole community.

Journée internationale de sensibilisation aux violences envers les aînés
(JISVEA ~ WEAAD)
WEAAD a célébré 10 ans d’existence le 15 juin 2015 avec un premier sommet international à Washington, DC et des évènements à travers le monde. Intervenants du mauvais traitement des aînés, bénévoles et personnalités politiques ont marqué l’occasion à travers le pays avec de nombreux évènements de sensibilisation. Félicitations à la fondatrice de WEAAD, Dr Elizabeth Podnieks, et tous nos remerciements aux participants, particulièrement à ceux d’entre vous qui avez partagé votre passion et vos efforts avec nous par les réseaux sociaux.

NOUVEAUTÉS SUR LE SITE
L’Association des infirmiers et infirmières autorisés de l’Ontario a lancé un nouvel outil à l’occasion de WEAAD. Leur kit des meilleures pratiques à succès se compose de ressources accessibles et faciles à utiliser pour soutenir les professionnels de la santé à tous les niveaux (pratique, enseignement, politique…) et il offre un cours électronique, des videos, guides et plus encore. En savoir plus.
Le Réseau des Territoires du Nord-Ouest a récemment publié une nouvelle étude comparative: Networking to Prevent Older Adult Abuse: a comparative research study (en anglais). Cette étude vise à quantifier l’impact des mesures de développement communautaire implémentées par le Réseau sur la sensibilisation et la réponse aux mauvais traitements des aînés.

Janice Abbott (Atira Women’s Resource Society) parlera des femmes d’âge mûr qui sortent de situations de maltraitance, et présentera au passage le nouvel outil créé par Atira à ce sujet. Autres conférenciers à déterminer. Les inscriptions ouvrent au cours de l’été.

LE PROJET DE PARTAGE DES SAVOIRS
Le connecteur des savoirs sera officiellement lancé le 1er septembre 2015.
Vous pouvez nous assister dans le développement du projet en partageant vos outils, vos projets prometteurs et futurs évènements. Vous pouvez aussi simplement parler du projet à vos contacts et les encourager à rejoindre le RCPMTA.
Dans cette optique, le RCPMTA a créé une courte introduction au projet (en format PPT et PDF) ainsi qu’une brochure. Envoyez-nous un courriel si vous souhaitez en recevoir une copie pour partager avec votre réseau.
Participer au connecteur requiert peu d’efforts ou de connaissances en informatique mais votre soutien actif et votre implication directe nous aident à developer une plateforme de partage des connaissances qui contient les dernières informations d’intérêt pour la communauté entière. 10 façons simples de vous impliquer au projet.
