July 2016 Newsletter

Welcome to Martha Kisling's Art With Heart!

I am a little late with my July newsletter because we had two weeks of family coming and going. It is so nice to be able to spend time with everyone but also good to get back into a routine again and be able to be in my studio. I have a long list of things I want to get done this summer and I already checked one off the list by putting together a downloadable Painting Checklist. I am offering it as a FREE gift for my newsletter subscribers. Check it out below and I hope you make good use of it while you are painting.
Be sure to visit
my blog to keep up to date on all of my art adventures.

Thank you for joining me on this creative journey!

July 4th and Family!

We had our first Family July 4th celebration here in our new home in Tennessee and had a wonderful time. It was so much fun to spend time in the sun, on the water, eating and of course watching our granddaughter splash around in the lake.

Creative Painting Blog

Columbines

I try to post to my blog several times a week to keep everyone updated on my art. One of the fun things about a blog is that you can view present and past paintings by topic or category.

I lived a total of 28 years in Colorado but for some reason I only completed a few paintings of the state flower, columbines. They are a beautiful flower with a unique shape and I used the watercolor batik technique and combined collage with watercolor when I painted them. You can see all of my COLUMBINE posts
here

And of course, you can see all of my fun art boards on Pinterest

Free Gift From My Studio To You!

As a gift to my newsletter subscribers I have put together a checklist of things to think about before you begin a painting, while you are painting and when you think you have finished a painting. It focuses on Composition, Color, Character and Craftsmanship and I have added a soft image of one of my watercolor paintings for some background color.

I hope that you will feel free to print it out and use it in your studio or whenever you are painting. You can find the Painting Checklist printable here. Happy painting!

Creative Corner

We tackled lighthouses in my weekly class at the Art Center and used masking fluid to save the whites. Masking is a wonderful way to protect a shape so that you can freely brush paint across the wet paper - in this case the sky - and not get any color on your lighthouse or other object. Remember to use an old brush and wipe it on a bar of soap first so that it will be easier to clean.
