Positive Life NSW is working on a new campaign about sero-difference (or ‘sero-discordance’) in relationships called ‘HIV Difference?’ HIV Difference will be about relationships where partners have a mixed HIV status, HIV negative, HIV positive or HIV unknown.
‘HIV Difference?’ began with the publication of the magazine SeroDisco in 2008 and then SeroDisco2 in 2012. These magazines told the personal stories of people with sero-different relationships, be they exclusive or not, or long term, short or ‘hook-ups’. ‘HIV Difference?’ will continue that approach, in the interests of reducing HIV transmission, improving relationship negotiation and addressing stigma and fear.
Much has changed since SeroDisco2, and for people with HIV and our HIV-negative lovers, friends and fuck-buddies, ‘treatment as prevention’ and the availability of PEP and now PrEP is poised to release us from the fear of HIV transmission. We know that many people have said they are free of fear for the first time in their life.
If you are in or have been in a HIV-different relationship and have recent first-hand experience of any of the following topics and would like to tell your story, we’d love to hear from you:
- taking PEP or PrEP
- how important is an undetectable viral load and how do you deal with times when your viral load remains detectable?
- talking with a partner about receiving a sexually transmitted infection (STI) diagnosis and the need for them to get tested, or
- using condoms and safer sex in a sero-different relationship.
We want to talk to HIV-positive and HIV-negative people, male, female, transgender, gay, straight, queer or bisexual from all over NSW. Interviews can happen over the phone and you’ll receive a $50 Woolworth’s voucher for your time.
If you have a story to tell, please get in touch on (02) 9206 2176 or email scotth@positivelife.org.au
