FOURTH SUNDAY OF LENT - HYMN SING
Few can argue about the power of music to touch the heart. Voices shared in worshipful song allow us to honor God in a truly beautiful way. At the center of our worship on the Fourth Sunday of Lent will be an extending period of singing. The Pastor will invite the congregation to call out the number of their favorite hymn with a single sentence description of why it is special.

CALL ON WENDY'S TO UPHOLD FARMWORKERS' RIGHTS - MAR. 3
Coalition of Immokalee Workers is holding a big march and rally in NYC on Thursday afternoon, March 3rd, calling on Wendy's to join the Fair Food Program (for reasons described in a previous mid-week email).  There will be an initial rally on W58th St. and 8th Ave (close to Columbus Circle) at 4pm followed by a 1.5 mile march to the offices of Wendy’s Chairman, Nelson Peltz. Read all details on the event.

White Plains Presbyterian Church’s involvement in past actions have been helpful in bringing Trader Joe's and Ahold (Stop n Shop) into the Fair Food Program.  And we really could use your help again.  The photo above is of Carmen Grey praying out in front of Stop n Shop during our local rally!  And the PC(USA) as a denomination has mobilized thousands of its members since 2002 to bring about what are

For anyone who would like to travel with others headed to the march, there is a bus departing from Manhattanville College.  Follow this link for the bus details (be sure to select the Westchester bus).

OUR NEXT MIDNIGHT RUN - APRIL 30, 9 PM
White Plains Presbyterian Church is going back to the streets

We need all kinds of help to make this run a success.  Most importantly we need everyone to donate food, hotel sized toiletries, new or gently used clothing. Here is a list of what you can do to help:

Start a 5 gallon pot of coffee at the church by 7 PM on the night of the run ---

Five packers at the church on April 30 by 8 PM to pack the bag lunches---See the Sandwich Guide below.

Four drivers with a car who can take at least 3-4 other people and supplies. Be at church by 9 PM and leave for the city at 10 PM ---

Fourteen people to actually go on the run (4 will be drivers). Arrive at church by 9 PM for orientation and packing cars.

Here's what we'll need to prepare and bring- please donate by dozen or more:
  • Bag meals. Between 100 and 150. These should include:
  1. Fruit. Something durable like an orange or banana. Apples are okay in some meals, but hard for those with missing teeth to eat. Individual fruit cups are okay (with spoon).
  2. A hard-boiled egg UNPEELED
  3. A juice box
  4. A dessert or two. Granola bars are fine, and sweet things—such as cookies, candy bars and brownies—are much appreciated.
  • Soup. Three to five gallons – Susan De George & Kathy Dean
  • Coffee. Three to five gallons.
  • Bottled water. 48 individual servings.
  • Paper cups and spoons to serve 75. Drink cup lids recommended.
Here's a guide to what makes a great sandwich:
  • A substantial sandwich is what most sets apart a loving bag meal from a less desirable one. We realize that it's also the most expensive item. But there's an emotional value in getting a sandwich piled high with turkey, ham, roast beef, chicken salad or meatloaf. It truly says, "Someone is thinking of you." Variety is nice, so we ask that at least some of the sandwiches not be bologna or peanut butter (you get a lot of those in soup kitchens).
  • Condiments: Mayonnaise and mustard are certainly welcome. Avoid tomato as it's too likely to make sandwich soggy.
  • Extras: Bag decorations may seem trivial, but they have the power to brighten someone's day. Sometimes small kids decorate the bags used for these portable meals. Some—probably most—guys might ignore the decorations. But we guarantee that someone out there will feel touched by one of those bags. And it can help if you also mark the bags with the kind of sandwich. Life on the street doesn't have many choices, so it's nice to be asked, "Would you like a turkey or salami sandwich?"
A sign up sheet is in Fellowship Hall or you can email Kathydean64@gmail .com to volunteer to help.
