Blaenavon Heritage Railway

Trains are running during April on Saturdays and Sundays with the first train at 11.00am and the last at 3:45pm. Fares are £9 adults, £8 seniors, £5 children (aged 3-15), Family (2 adults and up to 3 children) £23.

On Sunday 1st May and Monday 2nd May (the Bank Holiday weekend) we are hoping to operate a mixture of steam and diesel on an intensive timetable.

Enrolment weekend for World Heritage Youth Ambassadors

Aged 13-25? Want to volunteer? Gain skills, make friends, get qualifications, have an awesome time seeing and changing the World! Volunteer with us and climb mountains, walk in the footsteps of dinosaurs, visit ancient castles and monuments, discover the strength and power of an industrial nation, then make your own impact on the World around you. Have a voice and make a difference. Learn how to help manage a World Heritage Site.

9.30am – 4.30pm each day.

Velothon Wales: Sunday 22nd May 2016

The main road into the borough from Monmouthshire, through Blaenavon and Pontypool, and into Caerphilly will be closed for most of the day, along with many side roads. The organisers would like to hear from anyone whose event, holiday travel, or carer responsibilities will be affected on the day.

News

New Blaenavon Community Museum now open

Based in the magnificent Workmen’s Hall and run by a team of friendly volunteers, the museum explores the proud cultural heritage of Blaenavon and the south Wales coalfield.

Open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday  and Friday (10am-4pm) and Saturday (10am-1pm) – admission £2 (free for under 16s).

 

Bicentenary of St Peter’s School Exhibition

2016 marks the 200th anniversary of the establishment of St. Peter’s School by Sarah Hopkins. From 29th April there will be an exhibition at the Blaenavon World Heritage Centre and Library to celebrate the building’s bicentenary.
