Center Co-hosts Exclusive Roundtable Event with Southface Visionary Dinner Keynote Speaker, Steve Curwood



The Center, along with the Georgia Tech Center for Serve-Learn-Sustain and the Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts, hosted "Creating Sustainable Communities: A Conversation with Steve Curwood of NPR's Living on Earth" on October 7th. Curwood, led a discussion on environmental and social equity issues facing Atlanta and the nation. Joining Steve were Charles Whatley, Southface Board Member, and Dr. Beril Toktay, Professor and Faculty Director of the Ray C. Anderson Center for Sustainable Business. The conversation was facilitated by Dr. Jenny Hirsch, the inagural Director of the Center for Serve-Learn-Sustain.

Center Featured at 3rd Annual RayDay Celebration

 
 

Hosted by the Ray C. Anderson Foundation,  RayDay is an annual event held to honor and celebrate Ray C. Anderson's efforts to make this a better world. 

"Our goals for our annual RayDay celebration are to bring people together, encourage conversations and connections, and continue to spread the word about sustainability." said Harriet Langford, Ray's daughter and trustee of the Ray C. Anderson Foundation

Center hosts 2nd "Business Careers and Sustainability" Panel 



In 2014, the Center collaborated with the Scheller Net Impact student club to inaugurate the "Business Careers and Sustainability" career panel. Now, in its 2nd year, the panel was another great success.

Facilitated by Managing Director Howard Connell, the event panelists included  Dan Fukushima, Director, Strategy and Ops practice at Slalom Consulting; Lindsay Chason, Director of Merchandising, The Home Depot; Aaron Uddin, Senior Consultant, ERM:Environmental Resources Management; and Valentina Fomenko, Senior Consultant, Scott Madden Consulting.


The event is an opportunity for students to learn about the impact of sustainability knowledge in business careers and hear about trends in industry.

On October 28th, the Center and the Ray C. Anderson Foundation (RCAF) co-hosted a workshop focused on RCAF's work on “The Ray.”  The Ray is an effort to transform the Ray C. Anderson Memorial Highway into a global model for the future of sustainable transportation. 

The day was kicked off by Chris Carr, the Commissioner of the Georgia Department of Economic Development. Participants included executives form a number of prominent corporations, and experts from the Brookings Institution, Innovia Technology, and Georgia Tech.

Dr. Beril Toktay honored as 2015 Faculty Woman of Distinction



"Be Bold" was the theme of the 2015 Georgia Tech Women's Leadership Conference. In it's 19th year, the conference is a gathering of women who have sought to become leaders in the classroom and the boardroom as well as the communities where they reside.

Toktay was honored together with Dr. Ellen Zegura for their outstanding work collaborating and leading a university-wide process to establish and launch the new 10-year Quality Enhancement Plan, Serve-Learn-Sustain.

Georgia Tech became the second university in the nation to be certified as an affiliate of Bee Campus USA, a program designed to marshal the strengths of educational campuses for the benefit of pollinators. Thoughtful stewardship of honey bees, wild bees and other pollinators is vital to the economy for many reasons. Not only do honey bees contribute to the honey industry, but they are an essential catalyst for every one-in-three bites of food consumed.

The Ray C. Anderson Center for Sustainable Business launched in 2013 thanks to the generosity of the Ray C. Anderson Foundation and the Kendeda Fund. The Center was created as a catalyst, connector, and enabler, bringing together students, research faculty, companies, entrepreneurs, and other organizations in environments where business-driven solutions can take shape and thrive.
