Support the St. Peter's Food Cupboard

A message from Dawn Bruno, team leader in the Run Against Hunger

"When I first began volunteering with the food pantry they served fewer than 100 clients per week, a pre-packaged brown bag full of canned goods. The only choice clients had on occasion was wheat or white bread. Six years later, clients can now pick from a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables, in addition to the newly added meat component.

The funds that we raised from the 2014 Walk helped the pantry purchase a freezer to hold the meat, making a weekly distribution possible. St. Peters clientele has grown to an average of over 200 people per week with many new clients in 2014. They never turn anyone away, but continually use their energy to find new ways to provide more and not leave anyone feeling uncared for.

The need for basic necessities such as shelter and food for many families is overwhelming and disturbing. If you are considering donating any amount it truly helps."

The annual Walk+Run Against Hunger is the largest fundraiser for St. Peter's Food Cupboard. Our goal for this year's walk is $15,000. Please help us reach our fundraising goal!

A "Historic" Night for the 1761 Society

Did you know that more than 50 parishioners have remembered St. Peter's in their wills or estate plans?

The 1761 Society recognizes parishioners who have made this thoughtful commitment to the future life and ministry of St. Peter's. As a way of showing our gratitude, the members of the 1761 Society are invited to a special event at the Historical Society of Pennsylvania at 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 22. The group will be treated to a private viewing of some of our nation's most historic documents, including a handwritten draft of the U.S. Constitution, the first map of Philadelphia, and a copy of the Emancipation Proclamation signed by Abraham Lincoln.

Also on display that evening will be St. Peter's Church charter of incorporation signed by Thomas and Richard Penn, a handwritten sermon by Bishop William White, a list of subscribers who funded the construction of St. Peter's steeple, and other records pertaining to our church's history. Do you recognize any names in the subscription book pictured above? (Look on the top right page) There will be an opportunity to view the documents up close, and to enjoy a light reception with snacks and wine.

Please RSVP by April 16 to Lauri Cielo at cielo@stpetersphila.org or 215-925-5968.

If you have remembered St. Peter's in your will or estate plans, please let us know so we can include you in the 1761 Society and invite you to this and future events. Want to know more about planned giving options? Visit the planned giving section of our website or contact Lauri Cielo.

Adult Choir Open House

A message from Interim Music Director Bruce J. Barber II

Do you love choral music and love singing in the midst of a talented, dedicated ensemble of peers? Did you sing in high school or college....have you set singing aside and are perhaps regretting that decision now? Here comes an invitation....read on....

Saint Peter's Adult Choir is one of three choirs that staffs the liturgies here at Saint Peter's Church, and is also the "lower voices" for the Choristers when they sing multi-part music. This choir is made up of dedicated men and women, both professional and avocational, who share their gifts with each other, with the Choristers, and with Saint Peter's Church and surrounding community. Saint Peter's Adult Choir invites you to try us out!

We invite you to come to sing with, no strings attached, on any or all of the following Sundays:  April 26, May 10, 17, and 24. We meet in the Parlor of 313 Pine Street at 9 a.m. and prepare music for upcoming services and for the services that day. You are most welcome to try us on at a Thursday evening rehearsal on May 14...beginning at 7:15 p.m.

The Adult Choir is in need of tenors and basses, especially, but all voice parts are welcome. To ensure that there is music for you, please contact Bruce Barber in the Music Office before join us for this Open House.

We hope to welcome many during this Open House season...especially with an eye toward welcoming new regular members next season!

Our team on pastoral care would like to knit the St. Peters community in a closer embrace and be there for parishioners in times of need. The clergy and Kate will alert our point person, Stacey Auerweck.

Music Director Search Update

After a lot of listening to you, speaking with musicians, looking at best practices in other churches, and conversation within the committee, the Music Search committee developed a job description for the Director of Music Ministry position at St. Peter’s. The vestry received and endorsed the description at its March meeting and by March 23 the job description was posted to the American Guild of Organists website, the Association of Anglican Musicians website, the Yale Institute for Sacred Music website, and our very own St. Peter’s website. We encourage you to take a look and share it with anyone you think might be qualified and interested. Read more on the Open Minds blog...

Fast for Family Values

Clergy and lay people from rural, urban, and suburban areas across Pennsylvania gathered in the Capitol Rotunda on March 23 to launch an 100-day fast calling for full school funding and a funding formula that undoes racial inequities in how Pennsylvania funds school districts.
