Niagara Falls History Museum

Niagara Falls City Council’s 2015-2018 Strategic Priorities include a commitment to building and promoting a vibrant, sustainable city that supports an active, connected and creative community. It identifies both the revitalization of the Niagara Falls Farmers Market, and fostering culture as a key contributors to attracting and retaining talent, providing quality of life and supporting creative businesses as strategic objectives.

The City of Niagara Falls Culture Plan expressed the desire for cultural intensification to create a vibrant and well planned city, and called for the development of an integrated, centralized cultural asset. The Main & Ferry area presents a unique opportunity to form a cultural cluster, as described in the City’s, and Region of Niagara’s Cultural Plan, in this neighbourhood.

The project will operate as a new hub for culture and community in the historic Main & Ferry area. The project space, located at the site of the current Sylvia Place Market and city-owned parking area south of and adjacent to the Niagara Falls History Museum, will be a dynamic creative space dedicated to arts, cultural engagement, and market activity with additional publicly accessible space for community gatherings.

This area has the potential to become the cultural and social heart of our community.

Work in 2017 will include discussions with stakeholders and the design of this new creative and market space for the people of Niagara Falls.

INDUCTEES
Bunnie Brandt-Wilson
Bunnie is the ultimate volunteer as she volunteers for most artistic, musical, literary, environmental and charitable events in Niagara Falls and the Niagara Region.  She works with Women’s Place of Niagara, is a member and past chair of the Advisory Committee of the Coronation 50+ Centre, participates with Springlicious, Winter Festival of Lights, Summertime Blues at Fireman’s Park and Canada Day and Santa Claus Parades.  A true believer that cities with a rich cultural society will always win on the international stage, she has spent decades helping to develop, support and encourage businesses, writers, musicians, and artists to contribute to Niagara’s cultural development.

Larry Hurst (1954 – 2014)
An accomplished musician and actor from an early age, Larry Hurst could be found playing banjo, fiddle and guitar as well as starring in various on-stage productions. LEE AARON - FIRE AND GASOLINE TOUR

Seneca Queen Theater
October 28th at 8:00 PM until 11:00 PM
4624 Queen Street Niagara FallsIn recent years Lee Aaron has found a comfortable reconciliation of her parental ideals and rock ‘n’ roll heart. Tempered by the wisdom that motherhood brings, she’s no longer concerned by the stereotyping that relentlessly pursued her since the 1984 release of her iconic album Metal Queen. Instead, she’s now able to understand why the label stuck, and can – almost cheerfully – discuss her relationship with the mythology that is actually an acute counterpoint to her fundamental artistic vision.

Paul Haywood is a high-end, free-wheeling hybrid – what does that mean? – who draws material from his crazy everyday life and spins it into comedy gold. He is an instantly likeable lanky looney-tune. See for yourself! He has starred in over 40 commercials worldwide, including two to launch this October!

Niagara’s own Mark Matthews has worked throughout North America, and opened for Jerry Seinfeld, Gilbert Gottfried, and Jimmy "JJ" Walker to name a few. He has also appeared on CBC’s Comics playing the simple-minded brother of comedian Jeremy Hotz, and starred in the award-winning Kiss of Death (a short film made for an international film competition that won the Best Cinematography Award and brought Niagara talent to the world through film).

Ian Sirota is a sharp tongued, take no prisoners comic who blends in observational humour with a family focus. He was a regular cast member and writer for ComedyIncComedyNow, andGutterball Alley! He has been nominated for not one but two Gemini Awards including BEST COMEDY PERFORMANCE.
