On behalf of the Rape Crisis Center we wanted to thank you for your recent donation to our clothing closet. The Rape Crisis Center serves survivors of sexual assault throughout Pinellas County through medical services, advocacy and in several additional ways. Our work often begins shortly after their assault and lasts throughout the criminal justice process or as long as survivors are in need of advocacy and support. Many times when we initially meet a survivor it is when we are responding to an assault that has occurred very recently. They see us in the same clothing they were wearing during the assault and have been unable to eat, change, or shower prior to seeing us. We then collect their clothing as evidence to assist law enforcement in the investigation and apprehension of those who committed this act of violence. This means that survivors are left with little to no clothing. In many situations this would result in a survivor leaving the hospital or our medical suite wearing a paper hospital gown. The donation given to us by your organization helps us in our quest to make sure that survivors are able to wear something comfortable in a very hectic, stressful, and emotional time. Supporting survivors is a community effort and one that we are appreciative to have you involved in.
Thank you for your support.

UNA-USA Tampa Bay Visits Florida Veterans
for Common Sense
On Jan. 19th members of the UNA-USA Tampa Bay board attended the February meeting of the Florida Veterans for Common Sense (FLVCS) to provide this organization with an overview of the Tampa Bay Chapter and the national mission of the United Nations Association of the United States of America. The interest that the attendees expressed during the presentation and the questions that they posed displayed the passion that this group has for their mission which overlaps with the mission of UNA-USA Tampa Bay. FLVCS started in 2002 during the run-up to the Iraq War. Today, FLVCS is a non-partisan 501(c)4 tax-exempt veterans advocacy corporation. Their mission is to inform their community on matters affecting national defense, active duty military, and veterans’ issues.
UNA-USA Tampa Bay would like to thank Gene Jones, President of the Florida Veterans for Common Sense, for reaching out to us to invite us to meet with and speak to this organization. We are looking forward to working together with FLVCS on matters of mutual interest such as sustainability, gender equality, and inclusion of a multi-lateral approach in U.S. foreign policy. In 2015, FLVCS initiated and held the first statewide Women Veterans Conference in Florida and you can read about this accomplishment here. FLVCS has an environmental working group that researches climate change as a national security issue and has issued this report on the subject. FLVCS also supports veterans by educating them on available benefits and resources.
