Fun in February

It's February and it may be a bit cold and snowy but we have many events and activities to warm up your heart this winter season.

Check below for details about some fantastic February activities and events, including the 28th Canadian Birkebeiner Ski Festival and the Great White North Dog Sled Races in Smoky Lake.

Ice Fishing

If you enjoy ice fishing, we've got over 100 lakes, ponds, and rivers for you in the East of Edmonton region.

Check out our website for the complete list of where to go fishing.

Why not take advantage of the Alberta Free Fishing Weekend, February 18th-20th, to try out some new spots?

Downhill Skiing and Snowboarding

Head over to Long Lake Ski Hill at Long Lake Provincial Park for a day of downhill skiing or snowboarding.  The line-ups are short, the smiles are contagious, and the prices are unbeatable.

We also have several other excellent ski hills in the region to check out:  Mount Joy, Valley Ski Hill, and Kinooso Ridge.

See more details on our website here.

Cross Country Skiing

Get out into the crisp, fresh, winter air and enjoy the sport of cross country skiing.  The east of Edmonton region offers numerous excellent locations for you to check out for this activity, including Elk Island National Park (with over 100 km of trails!), Cooking Lake-Blackfoot Provincial Recreation Area, the Strathcona Wilderness Centre, and the Vermilion Provincial Park (home of cross-country skiing Olympic gold medalist Beckie Scott).
