Bins Behind the Shops on Quinton Park
On Wednesday, our Quinton Park resident informed Roger that the individual bins for the flats had finally been replaced by 4 large bins. The resident thanked Roger & his secretary for all their hard work over the last few months to achieve this outcome. Roger will be monitoring their use.

Email from Layla Shannon Senior Waste Management Officer:
Cllr Bailey,
We exchanged the bins for the flats at Quinton Park on Wednesday. The supervisor for the recycling crew will monitor use of the bins over the coming weeks as during the exchange it became apparent that large volumes of recyclate within the domestic bins came from the shops.

Pedestrian Crossing on Leaf Lane by JLR Bridge
In our 5th February update, we reported that there was a problem with the linkage between the pedestrian & vehicle lights.

Colin Knight’s response was that there was a problem with the linkage between the signals & an urgent request had gone to Siemens (their signals contractor) to rectify it.

Last week the resident informed us that the problem had still not been resolved so Roger had to chase again.

This is the latest response received from Shamala Evans, Project Manager/Senior Engineer
Hello Councillor Bailey,
We are looking into the query raised by your resident. Our initial investigation shows that we might have to get Siemens to do some additional reconfiguration works at Whitley A444/Leaf Lane signals. I would hope to get this works completed by 10th March 2017.

New Tiverton School Update - Friday 24th February 2017
From the "New Tiverton Delivery Team" for Coventry City Council which consists of Council Officers, the designers and also the builders:
The works on site are progressing well and are all on schedule.
Thankfully storm “Doris” did not appear to damage the trees on site.
Foundations:
  • The excellent ground conditions have enabled the new foundations to be installed during the half term week.
  • The mild weather has allowed the concrete to set.
  • There have been 60 loads of concrete placed to date.
  • Preparations are underway for the commencement of block work and below slab drainage which will start within the next two weeks.
  • The foundations incorporate a system for the building’s steel frame; this will be installed in April.

School activity: The Head teacher of Tiverton School, Carolyn Claridge, visited on 16th February to look at the size of the site, location of the foundations, building activities and investigate whether a pupil site visit might be beneficial. She will be reporting her findings to her staff and Governors.
The Whitley Abbey Primary pupils are keeping a blog recording progress and this is to be shared with the Tiverton School community.

Cheylesmore Library Volunteers
This week 4 more people have expressed an interest in volunteering at the library and due to personal commitments 1 person had to withdraw.

Our next volunteers’ meeting is on Monday 27th February. Many meetings are taking place over the next few weeks so we hope to know more soon.

The cabinet meeting on 7th March will explain the future of the libraries & other services.

If you are interested in volunteering then please email: cheylesmore.ward@gmail.com.
The more volunteers that we have then the longer the Library opening hours can be.

If you have any ideas about what you’d like to see at the library then please email us. It’s important that everyone takes ownership of this valuable local asset for the benefit of the local community.

Can an Unmarked Police Car Stop Vehicles?
Yes, an unmarked police car can stop vehicles, but it must contain a constable who MUST be in uniform in order to carry out the stop.
If a car flashing for you to pull over or stop is unmarked, unless you are 100% certain it is the police, do not stop. Drive steadily to the nearest public place (for example a petrol station where they are open till late, a police station or somewhere there are a lot of people) and then stop.
