The Place Alliance Newsletter

Dear Supporters,

Place Alliance is excited to announce the launch of a new Working Group called "Education & Place" initiated by the collaboration with the Generation Place project - a schools and youth programme of work co-delivered by Architecture Centres and similar organisations across the UK.
The Education & Place Working Group aims to take a broad view both on how we inspire and nurture the next generation of placemakers (for both professional and civic engagement in the placemaking process) and how we use the built environment as an effective and engaging context for learning and participation.

The Working Group’s agenda is evolving and we would welcome input from organisations and individuals on how we might best shape and deliver this type of education.

Mapping the provision of Built Environment Education at National Level

This survey is our first step to help us understand what the sector looks like in 2017, by finding out who is currently working with young people in delivering education (specifically – but not only – at pre-university stage) around place and the built environment, where and broadly what types of projects are being delivered.

By answering our short questionnaire you will help us to collate the data necessary to create a National Interactive Map of Educational Tools on the Place Alliance website and to provide a better picture of how we use the built environment as an effective and engaging context for learning and participation.

If you are interested in being involved in the sharing of practice in this field, please leave your email address at the end of the survey and share the link with your network. We are planning a Kick-start meeting on the 24th of May (2-4pm at UCL, further details to be confirmed).

You can access the Survey here http://bit.ly/PA_PlaceEducationSurvey

Many thanks for your time and support!

Best wishes,

Place Alliance and the Education & Place Working Group

We are busy finalising the details for our 2017 Summer School. You will soon be able to book via the UCL On-line Store. In the meantime you can read the Summer School Diary 2016 and access last year’s documents and presentations here.

You can register your interest by sending us an email with the subject “Place Alliance Summer School 2017”.

BIG MEET 7 will explore and showcase how approaches of creative community engagement and co-production can transform the built environment and strengthen communities at the same time.
