ATMann’s April Taurus New Moon Astrology Newsletter

Listen to a recording of this newsletter

The Taurus New Moon occurred on April 26 at 08:17 AM EDT and typically promoted a returning feeling of being grounded and the opening of trees, flowers and plants all around us in the Northeast after an unpredictable winter of strange weather, so it is fine to experience the sense of an opening up of the Earth as well as its peoples. One curiosity of this is that the Sun and Moon don’t really connect very closely with any of the other planets or sensitive points, which implies that although a change in outer form is happening, that we still could easily feel a bit alone and alienated. Fortunately, several planets and the Nodes are in the process of changing signs, which makes for deeper change, although likely to be more subtle than usual.

On April 21, the active and precipitate Mars went from the stable and fixed Taurus ahead into POTUS’ sun sign Gemini, which should show an even greater tendency for seemingly random change, to go with the flow, to possibly allow alternate opinions, but also a continuation of unpredictable choices that will befuddle every conscious being. Indeed, I just read in Reuters that he announced today that being president was a harder job than he imagined, which must be one of the great understatements in recent history. On the same day, the pragmatic and controlling Pluto in Capricorn goes retrograde until late September, and it could easily exaggerate the trend of regressing and dismantling past laws and actions in a movement backwards into the past. This is particularly relevant as Pluto is fast approaching its opposition to the identifying Cancer Sun in the USA chart next year, showing that we are literally approaching the underworld of the USA, its shadow psyche, and its role as Lord of the Underworld. By seeing the policies being enacted in these days it is easy to understand that this is exactly what is happening, as we are being taken over by corporate, money-grubbing interests, being sold wholesale day by day. It makes one wonder that environmental safety, clean air and water, pollution by automobiles and coal-burning factories, Big Pharma and Monsanto atrocities are worth what those currently in power understand as the Dark Side beckons.

On the positive side, after its bi-annual retrograde cycle Mercury emerges and becomes stationary direct on May 4, and it will emerge from its “shadow” phase of returning to where it was at the beginning of the retrograde cycle at 5˚ Taurus. This means that radical ideas and the changes that they entail could easily gain ground, begin to develop in more imaginative ways, and that public opinion might begin a more active stage and start making a more essential impact on current affairs, until when Mercury reenters Taurus on May 16 and things settle down a bit and rationalism shows its head again.

On May 28 Venus enters Aries for the upcoming month, and this will bring more progressive views, especially in relationships with organizations and individuals, and the continuing presence of the storyteller of woundedness Chiron still in Pisces continues to bring up painful times recently activated and a sense that we must make huge sacrifices to re-create some semblance of sanity in our own world and in the surrounding world. And their only aspects are a frustrating quincunx to the North Node that has just moved back into Leo for the next two and a half years, which is more optimistic that it has been lately, but let’s hope that outward displays of accomplishment aren’t adversely affected by public events, grand shows of power and empty rhetoric. It is also an opportunity to express deeper and more self-conscious creativity in our lives, especially through groups that we create and join to find those of similar world views as ours. We should begin looking already. The Node also squares Saturn in the sign Sagittarius, the place of what we believe and those patterns of understanding that we express, and this activates a different type of loving that view with its opposite for our attentions. To be mindful now is a true challenge and requires that we engage in the world without losing our kindness and ability to love and be loved.

Saturn in its turn is in a positive trine relationship to the eccentric and unpredictable Uranus in the stalwart Aries, and the combination is rich as it yearns for new energies in old relationships, loves and structures of which we are a part. We must activate our coping mechanism to its fullest and learn ways to challenge the “new norm” so that true righteous directions are instituted again, if that is possible, and we should band together to bring this about. They are contradictory as co-rulers of the sign Aquarius and so while the idea of relationships is what this is about, it is often idealistic as many beginnings are, yet the Uranian quality means structure in which there is a lot of personal freedom to do what one wants, so it is paradoxical and echoes Trump’s comment above.

That retrograde Jupiter (a reversal of our values and beliefs) in the equable and balanced sign Libra is square to the revolutionary Pluto and means that what is going on in the “outer” world is seriously changing the face of our culture, yet their mutual aspects to the speculative and impressionable god of the sea Neptune shows how delicate the balance that is being upset really is. Ideals meet reality, even if it is a false reality, and the shakedown has profound effects on us all, on our daily lives, on our childrens’ lives and on all humanity. When the outer planets tangle like this the effects are so far-reaching that it is difficult to see immediately how extreme the results can be, but I am afraid we will see these results more quickly than we realize.

As Mars remains in touch with all the above planetary constellations, it brings anger, irrationality and strange pressures to the proceedings, which aren’t helped as its current sign Gemini is naturally duplicitous and inscrutable, leaving us not knowing what will happen next.

My daughter had her first US show at the KEA Carpet and Kilim shop in Hudson last Saturday and many marveled at her brilliantly colored flatweave carpets, and a number of them have since sold. She will have another show at KEA’s main showroom at 477 Atlantic Avenue, Brooklyn on May 6 at 6PM for the opening, so stop by and see them. And the carpets continue to be shown at their Hudson showroom in the near future.

I am available for readings, whether Life Time astrology, yearly Updates, Mandala Astrological Tarot readings or just you-name-it consultations. Be in touch if you are interested in having a session as I am around.

All the best,
Tad
