TENDER
TUE 05 SEP
It used to be only David Beddingfield that would admit to making music in his bedroom. Then James Blake turned the super-intimate nature of ambient electronica into headline-worthy, genre-defying music to be shared as well as savoured. It’s a space Tender are at home in. James Cullen and Dan Cobb decided to eschew the traditional form of a band in favour of tracks produced from their bedrooms, racking up tens of thousands of streams online and climbing to the top of Hype Machine. Their first full-length, Modern Addiction, arrives on 1st September, before they head to VU on 5th September. Take it from us: it’ll be well worth leaving your room for.

KRANK
BROTHER
SAT 29 JUL
The thing about London’s love affair with street parties is it’s damn heard to get enough of them. Krankbrother throw some of the best we’ve ever attended, and they’ve just announced they’ll be swinging by VU for their afterparty here on 29th July. Who’s with them? Joy Orbison and Prosumer, no less. Party by day, then come see the night out with us.

DEERHOOF
MON 04 SEP
Mountain Moves, the upcoming album from Deerhoof, is a different kind of beast. Guide vocals and simple melodies were dispatched via email, only to be answered with an outpouring of alternate harmonies, suggestions for arrangements, additional instrumentation. Some collaborators crafted their contributions in hotel rooms; others hopped on the subway and recorded with the band in-person. See the ever-prolific band performing here in the week of the album’s launch.

SECRET WALLS
THU 17 AUG
After five years away, Secret Walls return to VU for the #PaintWillSpill World Tour. Formerly known as Secret Wars, Secret Walls brings the world of live art battling to Shoreditch. Spread via word of mouth (think Fight Clubs vibes, minus the fighting), the competition offers aspiring artists the change to showcase their work on a global scale. As one of their original venues when Secret Walls began back in 2006 from a small bar in East London, we’re hyped to see the return of giant white walls primed for battle. Let the games commence!

47SOUL
MON 09 OCT
Fusing electro-mijwez, ShamStep and choubi across the middle east, 47Soul bring their sound to Village Underground this October. On top of the beats that have been bumping in the Arab World for centuries, 47Soul hypes it up with analog synthesisers, hypnotic guitar lines, and shattering verses from the four members. Balfron Promise, their debut album, is a product of the band's three year residency in London.

BLANCK MASS
THU 16 NOV
Fuck Buttons’ Benjamin John Power brings his third solo album as Blanck Mass out this year. According to the artist, World Eater is “a reference to the beast inside human beings that, when grouped en-masse, stops us from moving forward towards good”. Pitchfork says World Eater “finds one of electronic noise’s most popular artist making his heel turn”.
