3 Minutes To Explore, Reflect & Let Go

An Exploration of Options for Healthy Living

In the hot summer months tempers can flare up. You're suddenly angry at something or someone. Where in your body do you experience anger? Neck, midriff, back or just all over?

When we become angry, we enter a state that lacks awareness. You can observe, accept and manage this state with a simple technique. Close your eyes, (please not while driving, etc :) and explore it; although it will be tempting to push anger away. Notice other connected emotions such as sadness or fear but stay focused on the anger. Allow it to go as strong as you need to - within a zone of safety. Next, see if you can cradle your anger like a newborn and give it compassion. It's ok to feel this way, you can say to your cradled emotion.

. Do this several times. Blow the anger away from your being like a cool, ocean breeze. Give yourself permission to let your emotions dissipate like a passing thunderstorm. Notice the sensations. Did your muscle tension release?

Have as your goal this 3 minute practice for your angry moments. Meditation is not about achieving a continuous blissful state. It's ok to have strong emotions. Anger as an temporary emotion can sometimes provide personal insights and can represent an important aspect of our personality.
