COR Update Aug 14-20
Resurrection Voices
The Good Life

At the end of July, 23 high school students and four adults traveled to Atlanta for a weeklong YouthWorks mission trip. We served the community in a variety of different ways, with a particular emphasis on understanding food insecurity and supporting community efforts to provide healthy meals to those in need. We partnered with the Atlanta Community Food Bank, Metro Atlanta Urban Farm, Open Hand Atlanta (a meal service), A.G. Rhodes (an elderly care facility), Nicholas House (a day program for homeless children), and more.
In the evenings, we had opportunities to learn, experience the city, and connect with the surrounding community. We participated in a Hunger Simulation which opened our eyes to the everyday struggles that many individuals and families experience. We visited Centennial Park and explored downtown Atlanta. We attended worship at Ebenezer Baptist Church (where Martin Luther King Jr. and his father were preachers). At the end of the week, we hosted a Community Cookout a nearby park. Each night ended with a large-group gathering (worship) and church group time.
It was an incredible week full of life-changing experiences. We are grateful for all of the prayers and support this congregation has given us as we prepared and served in Atlanta. This is The Good Life.

“I have come that they might have life, and have it to the full.”

Mission of the Month
Hartland Food Pantry

Summer is a challenging time for food pantries to keep their shelves stocked, especially with school-age children home for every meal.  With that in mind, the Mission of the Month for this summer is the Hartland Food Pantry. Please help reduce hunger in our community by bringing in non-perishable food items for the Hartland Food Pantry. A collection bin for your food donations is located in the church narthex.

Sunday school will be starting soon

Sunday school will be starting soon! The official start of Sunday school is on September 10, 2017!  Lots of preparation is under way to make this a successful year.  We are in need of 12 teachers this year.  We will have four teachers for each grade group.  There is a teacher orientation on August 27th, 2017 at 10:30 am or August 29th, 2017 at 6:30 pm in the fellowship hall.
Each grade group (3K - 5K, 1st - 2nd grade, 3rd - 4th grade) will have a dedicated team of teachers for the year.  During the year, all children will have the opportunity to participate in learning scripture, music, a Christmas program, and a service project in the spring.

In addition, we will have opportunities to volunteer in the service project activity, and/or the Christmas program.  Please contact Christine Piper (cpiper79@wi.rr.com) or Shawn Motley (shawn.motley11@gmail.com), Sunday school coordinators with any questions.
Thank you,

Christine Piper & Shawn Motley

Attention kids! Bring your backpack to the 9 am service on September 10 and receive a special blessing for the school year.
Bread of Life Meal

We are scheduled to help prepare and serve the Bread of Life meal on Thursday, August 24 at St. Charles Catholic Church in Hartland. This community meal is open to all in need and generally serves approximately 100 people each month.

Our menu is pulled turkey sandwiches, roasted red potatoes, coleslaw, watermelon and cookies.  We need volunteers to help provide food and serve the meal. The grocery bags for food donations are located in the narthex and a sign-up sheet is available at the information desk, or you can contact Laurin Discher (262-894-2639 or lkdischer@gmail.com) for more information.

 Grass Cutters This Week

Thank you to Dave Groenewold for mowing last week and a reminder to Team One, Jake Gould and Michael Wojtkunski, that you are on the schedule for August 17-19.

Martin Luther Quote of the Week

Bring your pets to worship on Sunday, August 27 at the 9 a.m. service. Weather permitting, we'll be outside.  Remember to bring your pets with appropriate restraints. And if one of your lovely ones doesn't go out in public much, bring a picture! If your child doesn't yet have a lively pet, stuffed animals are also welcome
Distribution of Bibles

Attention 3rd-grade students and parents. On September 10th, we will distribute Bibles to parents of 3rd-graders. We ask parents to highlight favorite or meaningful verses. On September 24, parents should bring the Bible to church where they will present it to their child during worship.  Please be sure to register your child for Sunday school so we can ensure we have a Bible for each 3rd-grader

Nursery Changes
Hello all!  I am writing to inform you of changes in the nursery in the upcoming months. Due to the number of families with young children attending our 8:30 and 10:00 services, it was suggested we staff the nursery at both times. Unfortunately, this change was not part of the budget at the beginning of the year. We are looking to raise $1,000 to fill this position. With all of the young families at our church, it is in our best interest to stabilize this with a paid person who will be there on a consistent basis. Please prayerfully consider donating to help us.

Sunday, September 10 is “God’s Work. Our Hands” Sunday! This is an opportunity for us to celebrate who we are as the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Service activities offer an opportunity for us to explore one of our most basic convictions as Lutherans: that all of life in Jesus Christ — every act of service, in every daily calling, in every corner of life — flows freely from a living, daring confidence in God’s grace.  Here is a description of what is happening at Church of the Resurrection.

There will be a single church service on September 10 beginning at 9 am. After church, we are asking for volunteers to participate in two worthy service projects. Those service projects will run from approximately 10:30 am until noon.  After the service projects have been finished, we will hold a picnic lunch at COR. Hot dogs and drinks will be provided, and we are asking for you to bring a dish to pass. Sign-up sheets for the service projects as well as for a dish to pass at the picnic are located in the narthex.

Here is a description of the service projects:

Join us to spend some time with the residents at Matthew's of Hartland (did you know this was our original church building?) An activity is being planned (TBD) in which COR families can assist the residents. All are welcome!

Please join us as we spruce up the Ice Age Trail in Hartland at Cottonwood, Avenue. We will be hauling and spreading bark mulch on the trail as well as trimming brush around the trail. The Village of Hartland has graciously agreed to provide a dump truck load of bark much at the trail head which will save us a lot of time and effort and allow us to focus our efforts on the trail. Please bring your wheelbarrows, shovels / pitch forks, gas-powered trimmers and branch pruning tools.
