Job Creation
Up to eight job seekers in the Barriere and Clearwater area, including members of the Simpc’w First Nation, will gain trail clearing, milling and carpentry skills, thanks to a new Job Creation Partnership project. Lower North Thompson Community Forest Society has been provided $243,590 in funding to support the project through the Community and Employer Partnerships program.read more

Robin Hood Memorial
On July 31 Robin Hood, former president of the BCCFA, was laid to rest in his beloved Chinese Cemetery at Quesnel Forks  in Likely.

Forest Enhancement Program Funding Deadline
Community forests with shovel ready projects that meet the funding criteria should contact their FLRNO District immediately. Latest submission date for receipt of the prioritized District/Regional project lists to FESBC is August 19, 2016  read more 

Forests for Tomorrow Program Funding Deadline
The deadline for submitting project proposals for the 2017 – 2018 program is August 19th.  Eligible Activities are detailed in the Silviculture Funding Criteria found here.  Contact Jennifer Gunter for more information. 

Union of BC Municipalities Annual Convention
UBCM Pre Conference Session - BC Forest Policy Decision Making: The Case for Greater Community Consultation and Engagement”
Monday September  26, 2016   9:00 am – 12 noon Victoria, BC.  BCCFA Executive Director, Jennifer Gunter and President, Erik Leslie will participate in this session. 
UBCM Exhibitor’s Showcase -  The BCCFA will host a booth Showcase. BCCFA members are asked to encourage their elected representatives to stop by the booth. 

 2016 National Forest Week - September 18th to 24th - True North, Strong and Green
The BC National Forest Week coalition has resources and support for community forests  hosting celebrations that extend awareness and understanding of BC forests to the community. Educational outreach efforts help citizens appreciate our forests, our forest heritage, and the value of this renewable resource to the community and  province’s social, economic, and environmental well‐being.   read more  PDF

Health and Safety Responsibilities of Directors and Board Members
In practical terms, safety is about doing what you can do to make sure the people that work on your woodlot or community’s forest make it home safely. There are legal obligations attached to your role as a director, officer or board member of the organization  that holds the tenure. There are two main sources – occupational health and safety (OHS) legislation and the Criminal Code. read more

BC is hosting the Wildland Fire Conference 2016 in Kelowna from Oct 24 to 28, 2016 - the theme is Building Resilience. The Westbank First Nation Community Forest will be one of the stops on the field tour. We encourage our members to consider participating. read more
