October 2016 PTSA Newsletter
Dear Issaquah High PTSA Members,

The infamous "Seattle Freeze" may be real for some, but it was nowhere to be found at the warm and welcoming home of Leslie Guajardo on September 20.  Leslie and Jen Crewe, co-chairs of New Family Ambassador Program, hosted a coffee attended by 14 Issaquah newcomers and 18 "experienced" IHS parent ambassadors.

In its second year, the PTSA-sponsored program has enrolled 30 new families to date.  Each family is paired with an ambassador who serves as a friendly first contact when questions arise.  Every attempt is made to match families with shared interests/backgrounds or children in similar grades.

Leslie founded NFAP last year after her own family’s challenging transition from Southern California to Issaquah in 2014. She knew firsthand how beneficial a program like this could be, and now numerous families are reaping the rewards of her take-charge initiative.

The next NFAP event is “Ask a Counselor Night” on November 15 at 6:30 p.m in the library. Staff member Emily Tuttle will cover many frequently asked questions, such as graduation requirements and Family Access Information.  This event is not just for new families; ALL interested parents may attend.

We are grateful and proud to have Leslie and Jen as members of our PTSA Team.  To learn more about New Family Ambassador Program, please visit our website.

TIME MANAGEMENT FOR TEENS

Here are four helpful tips that will open the doors to a discussion about time management.

Here's a start:
Build your relationship by talking with your teen and not at your teen.

Really listen to what they are sharing and offer your suggestions last.

Staying intentional in how we talk with our teens can make a big difference in our relationships—and ultimately their success and well-being.
