Online entries for the 2017 Awards are open now. The Australian Institute of Architects' Architecture Awards Program is open to entries from registered architects who are Institute members and must be submitted in the state or territory in which the project is located.

Intern Placements Program

The University of Adelaide is looking for organisations willing to accept Architecture or Landscape Architecture interns. The program allows students to gain professional experience, for the School to build and develop its links with the professions, and for practices to connect with architecture and landscape architecture students who will soon finish their studies and graduate from The University of Adelaide.  Please read the internship program guide including key dates. Matiya Marovich wins Jack Hobbs McConnell Travelling Fellowship

The SA Chapter is pleased to announce Matiya Marovic as the recipient of this year's Jack Hobbs McConnell Travelling Fellowship. Matiya will use the fellowship to investigate the potential applications of timber construction in urban and regional Australia with the intention to champion renewable and sustainably farmed timber as a key component in the transition to more sustainable construction methods. 
The judging panel were thoroughly impressed with the quality of applications submitted and
were encouraged by the record number received, however, ultimately identified with the
clarity and conviction of Matiya’s proposal and its potential to have an immediate impact on
his development in his craft and the growth of his burgeoning practice.

Emerging Architect Prize Tour

2016 National Emerging Architect Prize winner, Amy Muir (VIC), will be touring DOING: To Do or Not To Do? in February. Amy will discuss the trigger points in her career so far, difficult decisions she’s made, engineering a career in architecture and getting involved in her community.

This AWS sponsored tour will visit the following states:

•    Perth: Monday 6 Feb, 6-8pm
•    Hobart: Wednesday 8 Feb, 6-8pm
•    Brisbane: Wednesday 15 Feb, 6-8pm
•    Sydney: Thursday 16 Feb, 6-8pm

Venice Biennale - Call for Creative Director

Yvonne Farrell and Shelley McNamara of Dublin based practice Grafton Architects have been appointed curators of the 16th International Architecture Biennale and will follow on from Alejandro Aravena’s theme from 2016. Now it’s your turn to get involved. The Institute is seeking Expressions of Interest for the role of Creative Director for the Australian exhibition at the 16th International Architecture Biennale in Venice in 2018.

This is your opportunity to participate on the world stage as Australia showcases its architectural industry, talent and intellect at what is arguably the most important event on the international contemporary architecture calendar.

Changes associated with Efficient Dwellings project

The Department of the Environment and Energy has engaged the Moreland Energy Foundation, an independent not-for-profit organisation, to undertake a study into how the building industry has achieved building dwellings with higher thermal performance and the practice of voluntary improvement to thermal performance beyond the regulatory minimum.

The online survey, consists of 10 questions and should take less than 10 minutes to complete.

Your industry input is valuable to obtaining a balanced view of the changes that industry has implemented and are associated with constructing more efficient dwellings, including to meet minimum regulatory requirements in Australia.
