The Queensland Budget was handed down last month and in true Labor fashion, their Budget is an attack on aspiration. It presented 5 new taxes to the people of Queensland because we know that when Labor run out of money, they will always come after yours.

Who doesn’t want a better job, to do more, to have more? We all do but for Queenslanders who have worked or are working hard to do just that, Labor is coming to get you and your dollars with new taxes on waste, land, punters, foreign investment and luxury cars which also includes motor homes.

We have Budget Estimates Hearings this month before Parliament returns for sitting in August and I’m looking forward to questioning the Labor Government with my colleagues and holding them to account for high electricity bills, increased car rego and a bloated public service that doesn’t translate to more frontline workers.
Burleigh Headland Oceanview Walking Track petition

I am calling on the Palaszczuk Labor Government to prioritise the reopening of Burleigh Head National Park Oceanview track, through the acceleration of the tender process and ensure funding will be made available in order to undertake remediation works of the Oceanview track.

Renewable Energy Policy

Labor’s lack of planning around Queensland’s future energy supply is reckless and short-sighted. Labor’s head-long rush to a 50% renewable energy mix, will increase prices, create energy insecurity and require tax payer funded subsidies.

We must avoid the high prices and blackouts that South Australia has suffered under Labor. However, it would also be a mistake not to carefully and prudently plan for our future. Labor has stopped our government owned generators from investing in renewable energy.  This is putting these businesses as a competitive disadvantage.  This competitive disadvantage will be worse once the Federal Coalition’s National Energy Guarantee comes into effect from 2020.

The Liberal National Party wants to grow these Government owned generators so these businesses and their workers have a future.  We have announced that will give these businesses a mandate to invest in renewable energy so that they can plan for the future.  These government owned businesses need a future beyond the current generation stock and under the LNP they will be allowed to look at new technologies when it makes economic sense to do so.

We do not propose to close our current coal fired power stations or set reckless state based renewable energy targets. Our plan will work with the Federal Coalition’s National Energy Guarantee ensuring lower prices and energy security.   The LNP’s continues to support the coal and gas industries and the tens of thousands of jobs these industries support.

Gold Coast Waterway’s Osprey Nesting Platform, Palm Beach

Gold Coast Waterways Authority is constructing an Osprey nesting platform on the foreshore at Palm Beach.

It's all part of our plan to manage the waterways environment.

Located along the foreshore at Palm Beach, this project involves:-
• Investigation, design, fabrication and installation of an Osprey nesting platform on an 11.5m pole on the foreshore at Palm Beach.
• Construction of a replacement nest for Osprey to maintain available habitat
• Nesting platform will encourage breeding and help sustain bird populations
• Management of waterways wildlife
• Aligned to community expectations and demand

Special Note: While no guarantee can be made that Osprey will choose to use this platform the design is based on a similar successful structure that was built by Redland City Council at Wellington Point. If the nesting platform remains unused by Osprey for five (5) years then the Gold Coast Waterways Authority will consider removing the structure.

PLANNED INVESTMENT - $30,000

Neighbourhood Watch

The Gold Coast District Neighbourhood Watch is running a secure disposal day on the morning of Saturday, 4th August, at the Robina Town Centre. This is a day when all Gold Coast residents may dispose of unwanted secure paper based material that they would be reluctant to put in their bin – such as old taxation and financial records, meeting minutes, letters, etc. – in a secure environment and can know that the material is not only be secure, but will be 100% recycled.

The project is a joint one between the Neighbourhood Watch groups on the Gold Coast, the GCCC, the Robina Town Centre and Shred-x, the company which has donated its services for the day. All paper based material will be accepted, staples and paper clips do not have to be removed, but documents must be removed from Lever arch files, and bulldog clips must be taken out.  Heavy cardboard will not be accepted, but manila folders are OK.  Material should be removed from plastic sleeves.

The service will be available from 9.00am until noon, with access to the site adjacent to the cinema complex off Collyer Quays.  Trucks will be available to remove the secure bins, and Robina Town Centre will provide security and vehicle direction.  Neighbourhood Watch personnel will also be on duty.  A gold coin donation will be the only fee.
