LATEST FROM WOMEN IN THE CITY
Dear Firstname

I hope you've had a wonderful summer.

For many, September signals the start of something new.  It's about having that back-to-school feeling, packing your satchel and looking forward.

In the spirit of starting a new term, we've given our website a bit of a re-vamp and included a new section featuring a range of City-based events. If you'd like your event featured, just drop us an email.

WiC Award Alumni Updates

We're delighted to share some news about a few of our award alumni.  If you're a former WiC Award Winner and you want to share some news, send us an email.
Amanda Blanc, our 2009 Woman of Achievement Award winner and incoming CEO of ZURICH, Europe, Middle East & Africa, is to become the next Chair of the ABI. She is the first woman to Chair the trade association since it began life as the British Insurance Association more than 100 years ago.
Sue Langley OBE, our Women of Achievement Insurance Services Category Award Winner in 2009 was elected Alderman for Aldgate Ward in the City of London in July and was installed last week.  She is Non-Executive Chairman Arthur J Gallaghers UK, Senior Independent Non Executive Director UKAR (Northern Rock Asset Management and Bradford and Bingley) the Lead Non-Executive Director for the Home Office and a Trustee for Macmillan Cancer.

She was admitted at the same time as Emma Edham (newly elected for Candlewick Ward previously held by Dame Fiona Woolf CBE).  They join Baroness Scotland and Alison Gowman bringing the total number of female Aldermen up to 4 (out of 25). Considering there have only ever been 7 female Aldermen in the history of the City's governance, this is truly a watershed moment.
Earlier this year Melissa Davey, one of the six 2017 Future Leaders Award (FLA) Finalists, was promoted to Director, Independent Evaluation Office (IEO) which reviews the Bank of England’s performance. She reports directly to the Chairman of Court.

Before Melissa moved to the IEO, she led the area of the Bank that oversees the Inflation Report and our regional agency network. She joined the Bank of England as a graduate in 1998 and has worked in various roles in the Monetary Analysis Directorate.

Melissa says that: "Being a FLA finalist definitely helped my confidence and raised my profile with senior management."
A Category Finalist for the 2013 Woman of Achievement Award, Rana Nazir, a water treatment engineer, is also the founder of the British Kashmiri Women's Council. Rana is a strong advocate for women in engineering, construction and facilities management and has won many awards for her work in business and the community.  She has been chosen by Sovereign magazine as an inspiring woman in construction.
And finally - a brand new arrival for Naomi Bowman, our 2014 joint Future Leaders Award Winner.

Welcome to Elijah Edward Otto Bowman born on 8 July and weighing in at 8lbs 2oz.
Finally, do check out our "round up" of bite-sized articles curated from the internet which we hope you'll find interesting and useful.  If you've accessed the page before, refresh to make sure you're getting the latest information.

Best wishes
