Stewardship 2018:
Generosity and Commitment

We mark the fifth week of our 2019 Stewardship Campaign this Sunday, celebrate the act of pledging, and thank Western members for their financial commitment to the ministry and mission here in our community of faith. We kicked off our campaign in September, with a Ministry and Mission Festival, allowing the congregation to understand the ways our members support mission at Western. The narrative budget, mailed to members and friends with our stewardship appeal in October, illustrated the ways that your pledge makes so many things possible at Western. Over the past few weeks, during Minutes for Stewardship, Greg Pitman, Naomia Suggs-Brigety and Ari Brose have shared their stories of how giving impacts our lives at Western.

To date, we have received 40 pledges totaling $217,679 which is 52% of the $420,000 goal. Your pledge (of any amount, at any periodicity) will help the Finance Committee make decisions about our budget for the coming year.

The Wild Western Pigskin Classic

Sunday, November 25 at 2pm

Join us for the first, of hopefully many, "Wild Western Pigskin Classic". It will be an afternoon of football, food, and fellowship. We'll meet at Henry Clay Park, 3011 7th St Arlington at 2 pm on November 25, play some football, and then head over to the Gutshall's house. Here's what you'll need to bring: your best game face and your favorite snack to share. The game is open to EVERYONE, even those who want to burn a few Thanksgiving calories. We hope you can make it! Questions? Contact John Molina-Moore

Congregational Meeting

December 2 after worship

The Session has called a congregational meeting for Sunday, Dec. 2, immediately following worship to hear the report of the Nominating Committee and elect new elders and deacons.

Sunday, December 16

Children's Pageant

In Worship

The children's choir will share the story of Christmas through song (and some fun costumes) during worship on Sunday, December 16th. It's not too late to join the fun--we rehearse from 10 am-10:50 am in the TBY Room. Children 4-13 welcome (older kids needed as helpers). For music questions, contact AMY@AMYDELOUISE.COM.

All children are welcomed to join an after-pageant party downstairs in the Multipurpose Room immediately after we sing, with other church members invited to join after service. If you can help with the party, please contact KATHRYN@WESTERNPRESBYTERIAN.ORG.

Donate Warm Outerwear

In Worship

Please purchase warm hats, gloves, mittens and scarves for donation. We will collect these as part of the Christmas Pageant sharing for donation to the children participating in Project Create.

Great Western Bake Off

After Worship

Calling all bakers! This year's children’s Christmas Party (12/16 in the Miriam's Kitchen space after worship) will feature the Great Western Bakeoff! If you wish to enter, please bring your tasty treats along with a recipe card to the party. Prizes will be awarded!

Roof Update from the Facilities Manager

I am pleased to report that the roof replacement project is progressing well with no unexpected issues with the construction. I had originally reported that it was possible that the project could be completed within 3 weeks from the start date, weather permitting. However, because of the recent and upcoming expected rain, the project will take the expected 4 to 5 weeks to complete. I am anticipating that the new roof will be completed by December 1, barring no major weather setbacks. Re-installation of the solar panels will be scheduled after the actual completion date. I would like to remind you that access to the garage area will be restricted/limited on Saturdays until the roof construction is completed. As always, thanks for your support.

-- Sterling Thomas, Facilities Manager

COMMUNITY SAFETY

National Vigil for All Victims of Gun Violence

Wednesday, December 5 7-9pm at St. Mark's Episcopal Church

Community Safety is one of Western's Micah 6:8 areas and we continue to be called to take action to prevent gun violence. By this December, over 600,000 Americans will be killed or injured by guns since the Sandy Hook shooting tragedy. We urge you to join the gun violence prevention community in our collective effort to continue to shine a light on the devastating epidemic of gun violence in our nation until these gun deaths and injuries are reduced.

Join others in this Vigil for All Victims of Gun Violence on Dec. 5 at St Mark's Episcopal Church, 301 A Street Southeast Washington, DC 20003 from 7 to 9pm. Event is sponsored by the Newtown Foundation. RSVP at NEWTOWNFOUNDATION.ORG/NATIONWIDE-VIGILS
