From the

Headmistress
Dear Parents
Thank you Y4 for sharing your wonderful assembly with us all last Wednesday.  You reminded us all how important it is to take care of our beautiful planet.  I hope Y4 have shared their excellent Rap with you and their friends!
We  enjoyed an excellent day in London yesterday with our Y6 children visiting the Oceania exhibition at the Royal Academy in London. Our children were a joy to spend time with and we received many compliments from staff at the Royal Academy. The trains and buses did not let us down yesterday and we were able to return in time for the Walton Girls' Primary Christmas concert , where our choir and choral speaking group were performing. Many thanks to all parents and my colleagues for supporting the enjoyable evening and challenging transport arrangements, to ensure we were present at the correct venue with the correct clothing!
Good luck to our swimming team who will be representing ISA Midlands at the Olympic pool in Stratford East, London, tomorrow.
Enjoy the weekend

Kinds regards

Former Pupil Success!

Former pupil success

Congratulations to former TGPS student Edward Marshall for passing his Trinity Grade 8 Drums with Distinction. What makes this all the more remarkable is that he is still only 12 years old.

Edward completed his Grade 7 with Distinction at the end of year 6 at TGPS having started in Year 2. He has spent the last year working through the pieces with occasional pointers from Mr Monaghan. In conjunction with his teachers at Oakham he is developing into an exceptional musician and dreams of Wembley await.

Well done for such an amazing achievement.
Brass Teacher on Tour
Kate Rusby Christmas Tour 2018

On the 3rd of December Kate Rusby will begin her annual Christmas tour, performing fourteen concerts to capacity crowds up and down the country.

Luckily for me she will be augmenting her band with a brass quintet comprising of cornet, flugel, horn, euphonium and tuba. A euphonium is mainly used in brass bands and concert bands (military bands), so I feel very privileged to be part of her wonderful music, and playing at great venues such as The Bridgewater Hall in Manchester and The Sage in Gateshead.

Kate’s unique style of folk music is authentic with a contemporary twist, playing Victorian Christmas carols that were banned in the church for being too happy. The Victorians loved singing these tunes so they were performed in the pubs all over Yorkshire. On her travels, Kate has collected many tunes and arranged them, often rescuing them as many were never written down, only passed down the generations. The brass quintet complements the music beautifully, giving the sound a very Christmassy feel, after all, what would Christmas be without a traditional brass band. If you are interested please check out Kate’s website and hopefully I will see you on the road.

Best wishes and a happy Christmas to you all.

Sundown Adventureland
Visit to Sundown Adventureland

The weather was definitely on our side on Monday 26th November when the children in Reception and Pre- School set off on their adventure to Sundown Adventureland. They enjoyed an action packed day from the very start to the finish. Their first experience was with Santa's reindeers who took the children on a magical sleigh ride to the North Pole to see Father Christmas. Of course,as you would expect when they got there all the children promised that they would be good and would continue to be for the rest of the year! They received a present from Father Christmas to open on Christmas Day and not a minute before.

In the afternoon the children visited the other parts of the adventure land which included Robin Hood, Lollipoppet Castle, Shotgun City and the Rocky Mountain train ride to name but a few. They enjoyed their lunch in the Rodeo Drive cafe and had lots of opportunities to explore the whole theme park! There were so many things for the children to choose from that they were spoilt for choice. On the way back home most of the younger children slept soundly on the coach!! Everyone, including the adults thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience and the children were extremely well behaved throughout the day. Well done to everyone - what a fun day!

ISA National Swimming Finals

Enid Blyton didn’t get to see this group but they are setting out on a journey this weekend to become the new “ famous five”. Martha, Orla, Cora, Joshua and Jack are off to the National Swimming Championships to represent the Midlands. We have had representatives in the past at these championships but never 5 children at one event. We wish them well and hope they do themselves and our school proud. I have an extra dimension to my own excitement and pride this weekend as I was asked, at very short notice, to take charge of the Midlands team at the Championships which in addition to feeling honoured will give me a ring side seat to watch our intrepid  five going for gold.
County Netball Trials

Congratulations to Olivia, Iniya, Leila, Marianna and Annabella who were successful at the recent County Netball Trials. They have all been selected for the development squad and start training with the rest of the County Squad this week for the next eight weeks. Good luck girls.
U10 Netball v Peterborough

The weather conditions were torrential but that didn’t dampen the spirits of two teams of determined netballers.  Both teams had good phases of possession but battling against the opposition and wind saw most of the shots off target.  Marianna broke the deadlock just before half time.  Second half saw more shooting opportunities for both teams but no additions to the score

U11 Netball v Peterborough

On a rather wet and wild November afternoon the under 11’s played netball against The Peterborough School. Both teams were highly competitive and there was a lot of determination to win the ball by both sides.

The girls played four quarters, initially of eight minutes, however, after being drenched in the first half, we decided to shorten play in the third and fourth quarters. Ironically, the rain ceased by the time the final whistle was blown.

The final score was a 4-3 to us.
Emily was nominated player of the match by Peterborough team.

Well done, I was very impressed with the girls. They remained undeterred by the weather. This was their first seven aside netball game of the season, as we now play hockey predominantly in the Autumn term.

I'm looking forward to a great term of netball after the Christmas break.

U9 Netball v Ayscoughfee Hall & Peterborough

It was an extremely wet and wild November afternoon but that didn’t stop the excitement in anticipation of the matches that lay ahead. All the girls played their part in an exciting and educational match with some good performances. The team battled against the elements and some sharp shooters finishing the afternoon with one draw and 3 defeats.

Superb effort everyone involved. Watch the footwork next time girls.

Highfields Cross Country

Last week 23 children took part in the annual Highfields Cross Country event which is always a good test for our children. It was also a good test for our logistics team who managed to pull off a great effort of coordinating various support vehicles to arrive at Newark in time for the start of all four races. Well done to everyone involved.

The U9 girls team again pulled off a great second place overall with some fabulous results from all 6 runners. The picks of the bunch were Hattie and Pippa again who returned home in a fine third and tenth place respectively. Our boys U9 team also produced some fabulous results but just missed out on a team prize. The U11 girls produced another dazzling 2nd place in the team event as a result of Georgie coming home in 4th, Phoebe 22nd and Martha in 19th position. The U11 boys found it tough going and also failed to register success in the team race. Congratulations to Tom who finished highest place in 22nd

LETTERS TO 6TH GRADERS

Moving up to middle school is often exciting and daunting at the same time. Everything is new;  classrooms, teachers and schedules.

To give the 6th graders a helping hand in the transition, students in grade 7 wrote friendly letters to the 6th graders to tell them all about their experiences  in middle school and shared a few tips with them on how to cope with the academic and social challenges during their first year.

The letters were very much appreciated and many decided to write back to ask more questions.

PYP 6 Exhibition

Last night was the culmination of six weeks of hard work for our PYP 6's.  For the first time this year, the focus was on showing the action component of the Exhibition.  Too often the students talk about what they are going to do, however this time they showed what they had already done.  It was inspiring to witness how many different ways they have become involved in creating real change.  They spoke with confidence, knowledge and a definite belief in using their passions to make a local and global difference.
