In Chinese astrology, Earth is also connected to stability, meditation and religion. Many people will be interested in spiritual or religious study. Every second Monday of the month at 8.00 pm, we organize a Taizé celebration. In the tradition of the ecumenical congregation of Taizé we gather in silence, singing, reading and praying. The celebration is multilingual. Everyone is welcome, and afterwards we can have a drink together.

Where do you stand at this moment? That is an interesting question, and we have a good way of tackling it: making a collage of images that tell the story. How relaxed is that! Make your own personal mood board using paper and illustrations our of magazines, get a good view of who you are and what your life looks like. Join this workshop that will have 10 people as a maximum number of participants. Have an interesting and creative evening.

Daytrip to Hambach Forest - NEW DATE

Why is a large group of young people living in the trees?
We will travel to the ancient Hambach forest (south of Düsseldorf) and visit the people who built a tree-house settlement in an attempt to preserve the forest from the rapidly expanding lignite mine.
We will meet them and hear their motivation to create a community in the forest, living in the trees. We will also view the nearby open pit lignite-mine, (the largest in Europe).
Departure from Bornsesteeg at 10:30 a.m. – return around 19:00

De Grote Filosofietour – Hoe word jij een dictator?

Het lijkt evident dat de Arabische lente van 2011 zich heeft ontwikkeld tot een Arabische winter. Sinds de start ervan zijn de regio’s Syrië, Irak, Libië en Jemen getransformeerd tot een warrig samenspel van vechtpartijen waarin goed en slecht vaak niet van elkaar te onderscheiden zijn. Arabische dictators waarschuwden hiervoor. Ze beweren dat chaos zou regeren zonder hun harde hand. Chams Eddine Zaougui haalt hun beweringen hard onderuit, want hij laat zien dat de dictators zelf een politiek landschap hebben geschapen waarin democratie nauwelijks kan bestaan.
Zijn verhaal toont niet alleen de werkwijze van Arabische dictators, maar toont ons tevens de diepere werking van de dictatuur, zowel in het verleden als vandaag.
Chams Eddine Zaougui studeerde Arabische studies in Gent en in Caïro. Hij is een journalist die schreef voor verschillende bladen, variërend van kranten als de ‘Correspondent’ tot de ‘New York Times’. Hij is gespecialiseerd in de politiek van de Arabische wereld en heeft een boeiend en inzichtelijk boek geschreven met de titel ‘Dictators, an Arabic history’.
