2018 ALLISTER YOUNG ARTS & CULTURE ENDOWMENT FUND

$1000 AWARDED
To one individual each year, to support artistic development in Niagara Falls
In 1997, Mr. Allister Young donated a 1932 Ford Roadster to be raffled off and the money raised from the sale of tickets was used to establish an Arts and Culture Endowment Fund. Each year one recipient is awarded this endowment. This individual must be:
  • an active artist in any creative arts field in the City of Niagara Falls.
  • must have accumulated substantial volunteer hours in the arts or in an arts organization in Niagara Falls
  • in Grade 12 or above (applicants need not be a student- ages 16 to 100 are encouraged to apply)
  • a resident of Niagara Falls

THE CITY OF NIAGARA FALLS 3rd ANNUAL
ART SHOW & COMPETITION
Calling artists of all ages!  The City of Niagara Falls Art Show will take place at the Victoria Avenue Public Library Thursday, March 29 to Saturday, April 28, 2018.  The competition is open to all Niagara Falls residents and students attending school in Niagara Falls.  There is no fee to enter; however all participants are asked to register online in advance (registration will close two days before the show).
An exhibition of all artwork will be open to the public from Saturday, March 31 during regular Library hours. The exhibit will hang for the full month of April where everyone can view the collection and vote for their favorite artwork for the People’s Choice Award. A public presentation of the awards will take place on Saturday, April 28 at 1pm.

NIAGARA MEN'S CHORUS
The Niagara Men’s Chorus is always looking to recruit new members and guests are always welcome at our Monday evening rehearsals at Stamford Presbyterian Church, 3121 St. Paul Street, Niagara Falls
No formal auditions are necessary but evaluation of the part your voice falls in ie. Bass, Baritone, Second Tenor or First Tenor is required.
Rehearsals are always fun and interesting as we learn new music or polish older pieces for performance. Please join us... CONTACT

 

The Niagara Falls Concert Band is a volunteer community band that performs a large repertoire of music from many different styles. We perform at civic events for the City of Niagara Falls as well as festivals, local are band shells and seniors homes.
We rehearse Monday Nights from 7:30-9:30pm.

The Victoria and Chippawa libraries are pleased to offer feature-length movies for everyone to enjoy.

Popular movies are shown on Tuesday evenings in the LaMarsh Room at the Victoria Avenue Library, and in the Meeting Room at the Chippawa Library on Wednesday evenings. Typically these are pre-DVD release movies, and we attempt to cover a wide range of titles in order to accommodate all of our borrowers' tastes.

Please note: Pre-release movie titles can be subject to change.

Screenings begin at 6:30 p.m. at Victoria on Tuesdays, and 6:00 p.m. on Wednesdays at Chippawa.

No registration, it's absolutely FREE, bring your own popcorn and a comfy cushion if you like!

The Niagara Falls History Museum is open until 9:00 p.m. on Thursdays and provides free access to the galleries and a variety of programmes for all ages.  

March Happenings @ the Museum

Float on over to the Museum this March Break

Join the Bubbleology Show at the Museum this March Break! Miss T the Bubble Queen hosts an entertaining and educational show that pushes the barriers of science to create a mixture of wonder, visual art, science, and magic all together in one bubble-fabulous spectacular show. Showtimes are at 11am & 1pm March 13-16. Afterwards take a journey through the museum, make a winter-themed craft and complete a scavenger hunt, then finish the day off with a movie at 3pm.

We are excited to team up with the Niagara Brewery Collectibles Club for two events this month.  On March 1st, join Larry Lemelin from the Club as he shares information about Niagara brewery history and news of the Niagara brewery industry as it exists today. Check out some artefacts and bring your questions!
On March 24th the Niagara Brewery Collectibles Club Trade Show welcomes beer collectors and enthusiasts to the Niagara Falls History Museum (10am – 4pm). Check out cool collectibles, bring your own collection from home and have it appraised by professional collectors, or purchase new breweriana as decorations for your bar, garage, or living room!

Echoes in the Ice continues in March

Ever since explorers began searching for a Northwest Passage over 400 years ago, the Arctic has been a fascinating and important area of study, rich with drama, adventure, even tragedy. Using artifacts, images, audiovisual presentations, and art, Echoes in the Ice: Finding Franklin’s Ship examines Arctic exploration past and present, profiles the explorers involved in the search for the Northwest Passage, and decodes the mysteries of the Franklin Expedition of 1845, when an entire crew vanished in the Arctic during an ill-fated search.

Black America on Screen film series

Showcasing some of the best black actors, writers and directors, who pushed the boundaries of American cinema with vision, passion and social insight.  Join us @ the Museum for some great films and discussion this month with DO THE RIGHT THING on March 8th and FRUITVALE STATION on March 22nd.

Adam has recently returned from a solo journey across Canada’s Arctic, and has just published his newest book, A History of Canada in 10 Maps. He will be speaking about his Arctic expedition and signing copies of his books.
