Frequently asked questions about the Demmer Library construction project:

1. Will the Demmer close during construction?

No, the Demmer will only close as long as it takes to move to the temporary locations and back again – hopefully no more than a week each, once in March and once in December!

2. Where are the Demmer’s temporary locations?

1805 Superior Street (the former Choo Choo Store) - all public library services

Three Lakes School – the collection that won’t fit at the downtown location and staff offices.

3. What services will be available at the temporary locations?

Downtown: we will maintain our regular hours and most of our services: new books, hold pick up, public computers, wifi, copy/printing/faxing/scanning, magazines/newspapers, DVDs, audiobooks, book return). A browsing selection of adult, young adult, and children’s books may be available depending on space.

School: we are working with the school librarians to have some children’s and young adult books available to students in the school libraries. Also, you can request books and we’ll bring them downtown for you to pick up.

4. I want a book or video or audiobook or something else that isn’t at the storefront. How do I get it?

You may always ask a librarian, in person or over the phone, for any item requests, same as always! You may also request items online (if you don’t know how, click here!). Once the item is available for pick up, we will contact you (by phone or email, depending on your preference).

5. What’s this about fostering books?

Prior to our move, we are inviting library patrons to sign up to take a tote full of books home to “baby-sit” during construction. You can select your books (up to 100), and they will be checked out to you until January 15, 2019. Then, as we move back in, we’ll call you to bring your books back!

Further information is available here, or by talking to a librarian (in person or over the phone).

6. Where will Story Hour and your other programs be held?

Story Hour will meet at 1-2-3 Lakes Dance Studio from March through December 2018. Other programs will be held at various locations in the community: at the Three Lakes Center for the Arts, Reiter Center, at school, or various outdoor locations, weather permitting.

7. I have another question – how can I get an answer?

Stop in and ask it – or call 715-546-3391, e-mail demmer@demmerlibrary.org or send us a message on Facebook!
And remember - your continued donations help us make this project better and better! We still have a lot of dreams, and you help make those dreams come true:
