WOW, THat's a lot of carrots!

In 2017 the Locker Project distributed 100,000 lbs of food among children in need and their family members! This would not have happened without our generous funders, and our tireless community partners who supplied the food: Good Shepherd Food Bank, South Portland Food Cupboard, Hannaford Supermarkets, Shaw’s Supermarkets, Cultivating Community, the City of Portland and community gardeners. Addionally, we'd like to thank Unum, Morgan Stanley, Standard Baking Company, the Portland Farmers’ Market, Dirigo Wholesale, and many local Maine farms!

We'd also like to extend thanks to a clever board member who helped set up a monthly Amazon Prime delivery to our warehouse. And to all the groups who led food drives and the individuals who participated in them, we thank YOU!

APRIL SCHOOL BREAK FOOD DRIVE

We thank all the folks and groups who did tremendous food drives for us to get the school food pantries super stocked before the February winter break. Our sights are now on the April spring break, starting Friday, April 13 for most public school students. The students who depend on our food pantries and produce tablings will be facing 10 days of not knowing where their next meal will be coming from. Many of them will begin taking extra food whom in anticipation of the school break throughout the weeks ahead. Critical items include granola bars, pasta, canned pasta sauce, canned beans and vegetables, peanut butter, kid-friendly soups, cereal, macaroni and cheese, and pop-top Chef Boyardee products. For a complete list click here. Please contact us at info@mainelockerproject.org or call our landline at (207) 899-9540 for tips on initiating a food drive in your office or social network, or if you want to know where to drop off food or want to schedule us for a pick-up. Thank you!

VOLUNTEER FOCUS

Katie Brown met Carolyn Delaney at a dinner party in 2015 and Carolyn was inspired to want to help. Being a member of 100 Who Care of Southern Maine, Carolyn wanted to submit the LP to be included in the drawing of non-profits to receive funding and spent time with Katie understanding more about the organization and hearing what was needed for support and growth. Carolyn is the owner of Delaney Consultants, a digital strategy technical support company as well as co-owner of Nutty Snacks – a gluten-free snack mix.

With a background in business process mapping and building technical solutions, Carolyn has worked with the team at the Locker Project to identify key data needs for tracking and reporting. With the help of a grant from Allagash Brewing Company, the team is implementing a state of art, simple and flexible database and scheduling system that will not only allow us to expand our capacity and open pantries in more schools, but will maximize our impact and tell us where we are most effective. It is true to say that the Locker Project will be able to feed hundreds of more food-insecure children because of Carolyn and the database team!
