All Things Green
Here at Habitat, we believe that green is so much more than a color - it's the Habitat green of our awesome volunteers' shirts, a motivating factor for our generous donors, a color scheme for your DIY projects, a nickname for our state - and so much more! This month, we want to share with you a few of the different ways we keep our Habitat Stores environmentally friendly plus some ways you can stay green too.

Featured Green Merchandise

This month, we are proud to feature quality bedroom furniture donated from Epoch Design. This company specializes in making a green, sustainable product that not only lasts in your home but also respects the Earth's natural resources. Be sure to swing by our Bellevue Store to check it out!

Earn a Habitat Green T-Shirt!

You'll be green with envy of the past few volunteer groups we've had! We recently had the help of groups from ECC, SeattleU, and Green River College at our Southcenter location. They did a stellar job assisting store staff by assembling furniture donations, organizing our plumbing and electrical fixtures, and straightening our aisles to help our customers shop with ease! Invite a few of your friends to come volunteer at our Stores three times to earn a Habitat green (or blue) t-shirt.

Keeping it Green through the Generosity of Our Donors

We would like to publicly thank BLUEROCK Tools for helping us help the planet through their donation of a wire stripper - an item that not only allows us to metal recycle more difficult materials, but also earns money toward Habitat's mission. Of course, our metal recycling program would not be possible without several of our dedicated volunteers who work to make it a reality each time they volunteer!

Green-Themed DIY

With the month of March comes two festive holidays - St. Patrick's Day and the lesser known National Craft Month. Even though St. Patrick's Day only lasts for 24 hours, National Craft Month gives you an excuse to keep your crafts green all month long! See if you can find some clay pots at one of our Habitat Stores, or take one from the stack you're saving from last year's end-of-summer clearance and give this cute tutorial a try (find the complete blog post here). You can find this, and other nifty ideas, by following us on Pinterest!

Advocacy in the Evergreen State

On February 1st, several Habitat staff and AmeriCorps headed down to Olympia and donned red scarves for Washington Low Income Alliance's Housing and Homelessness Advocacy Day. A few of the primary goals this organization has for 2018 include creating affordable homes, banning discrimination based on a renter's source of income, increasing funding for homelessness prevention programs, and protecting Washington's seniors and people with disabilities from the rising housing costs.
