5 Ways to Build Energy Through Connections
View this email in your browser

Last week I was in the Hunter Valley for the Customer 360 Symposium and had the opportunity to run a Think Tank session on Customer Experience.  It was fascinating as we had many of the big Australian brands represented in the room. The only issue was that I had to drive there... the first time I have driven since leaving the UK! Living in the city and running to work meant that we haven’t yet had the need for a car. Thankfully I managed to get there and back in one piece and also found some time to explore the beautiful vineyards.

So what about you - how have you been?  A lot of people have been asking me why I call this newsletter Healthy Habits and have suggested some other good names. I have been very open to feedback, but the truth is that we call it Healthy Habits for one reason: it’s what we do every day that makes a difference.  Study after study shows that when it comes down to how you look, how you feel and how you think compared to where you are now, the bridge to your future is your habits

Today’s focus is on one key pillar from our Raw Energy framework, Connections Energy, which are all about relationships. Relationships either give us energy or else take it away. There are all kinds of relationships in our lives. Relationships with people is the obvious one, but a relationship with food, money and time are perhaps less obvious. In today’s issue, we’ll take a look at these essential connections in your life:

1. Connections with people. Research shows that we become like the five people we spend the most time with. So take a look at the five people you hang out with or spend most of your time with. Are these people holding you back, or propelling you forward? It’s easy to say that if they are holding you back, change them. You and I both know that this is easier said than done. But what you can do is to start to open your mind to new people and new perspectives, and you can do that in two ways: a) you can start to go to different events and in our connected world, resources like Meetup.com can help you meet people just like you. Or b) you can study success, reading books such as biographies that give you insights and perspectives from people who have led interesting lives.

2. Connections with information. Look at your habit of the information you’re connected to. Does your day start with the negative “News”, or does it start by listening to inspiring podcasts and books that can help teach you, challenge your mindset and inspire you into action? They say that knowledge is power and I read several books a month these days, listening to them as I run to work over the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Imagine the mood I’m in when I arrive in the office!
3. Connections with food. Food is the foundational habit. It’s the thread that links our life together. At a base level, we need to eat and drink to survive, but food is so much more than that. The good news is that in the free world, we can eat and drink what we choose. The sad news is that many of us choose poorly because our relationship with food has become confused. You can change that by seeing where you are and collecting data. Sounds complicated, but it’s easy.  The data comes by keeping a track for a single, typical day of everything that goes into your mouth. Everything. Cups of coffee, snacks everything. With knowledge comes power.
Then for a FREE suggested upgrade, send the list to Lawrence@getrawenergy.co, or just reply to this mail. Remember, with food, it’s much better to do more things right, rather than everything right.

4. Connections with things bigger than yourself. Life can be very focused on ourselves, but recognizing that we are all connected to each other and to the environment will lift your energy and lead to creativity that would be impossible alone. Humans are social creatures and by supporting others to grow and develop delivers enormous benefits to us too. Wherever you are, there’s always someone you can teach and learn from.  Workplaces are communities of people working together towards a common goal. So don’t just show up and do your job, bring your whole self to work and share your passions with your colleagues to help them unleash their energy.  In doing so, this will unleash yours too!

5. Connections with money. What’s your relationship with money? Money is such a powerful source of energy, which is intrinsically linked to Time. We sell our time and with the proceeds we buy time. So think about your money story. Do you tell yourself that you don’t deserve money, so end up spending it as soon as it comes into your hands? Or are you worried that money will disappear and you end up hoarding it for a rainy day and stop the energy from flowing? In the business world, we have accountants to look after the financial energy of a business. In our personal lives, that accountant is often you. So take the time to learn the essential skills of money management so that you can buy more time for yourself and keep.

Invest in Yourself
Who do you turn to when you need guidance? Most people think that we can cope and push things forward ourselves without seeking advice, or we talk to a family member or a friend who is well-meaning, but may not provide the best guidance. Research shows that the most successful people in the world invest in coaches and mentors to guide them, challenge them, hold them accountable and help them move forward. I’m not just saying this as I am a coach, but I do believe that this is the best investment you can make in yourself. I under-invested in this area for a long time, thinking I could do it myself, but I was too close to my life, too close to my business. Fortunately I changed that, invested in a variety of coaches and things then really started to shift for me.

The Raw Energy coaching approach is a blend of lifestyle and business coaching, designed to support conscious leaders to unblock their own energy and unleash their potential. We’re here to serve you and work with clients around the world across every time zone.  Contact us here for a free no-obligation chat, to see if I can help you stretch yourself and reach your ultimate goals.

So whatever do next, remember that ENERGY, physical, mental and emotional, is the key enabler, and that’s why we call ourselves Raw Energy!

Let me leave you with this thought:

'Eventually everything connects - people, ideas, objects.  The quality of the connections is key to quality per se’
That’s it for this month. Have a fabulous few weeks and remember that you can unleash the energy that’s already inside you, you just need to believe that you can. Life is short, so eat well, have healthy connections and grow.

Warmest wishes
