I see this series as a throwback to a hard-nosed, non-conformist detective, just trying to make a living. Vincent’s life has been hard, mostly due to his drinking and inability to trust people. He has a good heart and a great sense of humor but does not show it much. Big man who uses intimidation and bullying to achieve his goals. He is now in his early 60s and physically he is starting to feel the years.

Dog Gone Lies

This is the first book in the Pacheco and Chino series, although the main character Ray Pacheco was introduced in The Bootlegger's Legacy. This book features one of my favorite characters Tyee Chino, a New Mexico Apache who we first meet as a drunken fishing guide. He is a lot more than that-- and in many ways is the star of the book.

Tommy Jacks is a character that I think many of you would enjoy. He is young and still learning how to be a reporter. He also is experiencing his first real romance and a heart-breaking tragedy.
