Irish Heritage ended its 44^th season with a most enjoyable piano recital by Adam Heron in Leighton House on 12^th June – see below. The event brought another interesting season in which the organisation continued to fulfil its role promoting young Irish musicians and composers, to a close.

Ensuring that Irish Heritage continues to fulfil its valuable mission in these challenging times continues to be demanding for a voluntary organisation. We have to evolve to remain relevant and resourceful if we are to continue to survive and succeed. I am most grateful to our patrons, benefactors, Board members and above all our friends and supporters for their loyal commitment.

We also acknowledge the continuing support and encouragement we receive from His Excellency Ambassador Adrian O’Neill and his colleagues at the Embassy of Ireland in London and the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Ireland.

We are working on our 2018/19 programme of events and will contact you with details in late summer. In the meantime please visit our website at www.irishheritage.co.uk for the latest news. We hope you have an enjoyable summer.

Virtuoso Piano Recital at Leighton House

Irish Heritage’s 2017 Music Bursary recipient, Adam Heron gave a virtuoso, solo piano recital in the elegant surroundings of Leighton House in Kensington, London on Tuesday 12^th June.

The talented, 19-years-old pianist impressed an appreciative audience with a selection of music by Bach, Chopin and Scriabin.

Adam, who had just returned from performing in the Masterpiece series at the Blackwater Valley Opera Festival, was runner-up in the keyboard section of the BBC Young Musician of the Year earlier in the spring.

Happily, the “weather gods” co-operated and guests were able to enjoy Frederic Leighton’s Victorian house and gardens during the interval

The Rose of Tralee hears all about Irish Heritage

Audiences in London and Wexford attending auditions to select local “Roses” to represent both in this year’s Rose of Tralee festival have been hearing all about Irish Heritage.

Saoirse Walsh, who contributes to Irish Heritage’s marketing and communications activities, featured in both auditions and succeeded in being selected to represent her home county in the festival in Kerry in August.

Saoirse has proved to be an excellent ambassador for Irish Heritage helping to raise awareness of our activities among new audiences.

The Irish Heritage Fundraising Golf Day on 28^th September

Irish Heritage’s financial commitment to its annual Music Bursary would be impossible without the funds raised at the annual Irish Heritage fundraising golf day in September. All concerned are grateful to Tom Scanlon for the time and energy he generously invests in making this day such a success.

This year’s golf day will take place at Luton Hoo Hotel golf and spa resort, near Dunstable in Hertfordshire on Friday 28^th September.

Teams of four are invited to participate in the day at a cost of £125 per person. Non-golfers are welcome to attend for dinner in the evening at a cost of £50 per person.

The format of the day is as follows:

09:00am Registration, breakfast roll and tea/coffee

09:30am - Putting Competition

12:00pm - Team Stableford Start

7:00pm - Dinner

8:30pm – Auction & Raffle

9:00pm – Prize giving

9:30pm – Live Band

Musicians from Irish Heritage will perform during the evening

Prizes include: Putting Competition; Individual and Team First and Second Prizes Nearest the Pin Longest Drive and Secret prizes and pairings.

There are a number of sponsorship and promotional opportunities available at the day ranging from individual hole sponsorship at £100 to the attendance of a PGA golf professional at £500.

Irish Heritage requires part-time administration support

Yvonne Kerswell who has provided Irish Heritage with first class, part-time administration support is retiring in July and the organisation needs to replace her. While the role is not too onerous, it requires a commitment of an average of two days a week through the year. The organisation is currently able to pay £5,000 for the time involved. An interest in music and social media together with proficiency in Microsoft Office are essential requirements. Anyone interested should be based in or around London. News about Irish Heritage Alumni

Maire Carroll

Maire Carroll, who was the joint recipient (with Carolyn Holt) of the first Irish Heritage Music Bursary in 2015, gave a wonderful solo piano recital in St Carthage’s Cathedral in Lismore on 1^st June as part of the Blackwater Valley Opera Festival.

Maire performed a demanding programme that included pieces featured on her new CD “Roots” and concluded with an evocative, original composition that earned a two minute standing ovation from the audience.

Carolyn Dobbin

Delphian Records have just released a CD by Carolyn Dobbin and Iain Burnside of songs from the north of Ireland.
