Good morning!

As I mentioned last week SAAR has had several PDR shops join our association with the goal of developing an accreditation program specifically for PDR vendors. With the changes in vehicle technology it is no longer possible for someone without the proper knowledge or connection to someone with that knowledge that can work on today’s vehicles.

It gets even more interesting - for all of us - as hybrid and electric vehicles loom to be much more commonplace in the next 2 to 5 years.

I look forward to working with our new members from the PDR trade to develop a solid accreditation program that meets the needs of both large and small PDR firms. The goal as always is safe and quality repairs.

I had a call last week to get a copy of one of the old style Completed Repair Notifications so I contacted SGI and they sent me a fillable PDF version of this document. You can view it here. I suggest you download and save it in your SGI file in case you need to use it someday.

I know you have taken part in lots of online meetings and seminars but there has been no better time to spend time working on your business. I always encourage people to sign up for these events even if you cannot attend it live as it happens because generally, they record, and you can check it out later.

Kelly Hackman from Color Compass sent me the following invite to send out to you. Mike Anderson and Ryan Taylor are two of the top collision industry consultants in North America right now, well worth the time to listen to for sure!

We had a great Technical Committee meeting with SGI on Tuesday May 5th. Our discussion focused primarily on the need for Destructive Test Welds to be performed anytime a technician performs a repair with a welded-on panel. Those of you that have taken the ICAR hands on welding training will be well aware of this but for those of you who are not familiar with this procedure you need to make sure these Destructive Test Welds are performed on every job that has a weld on panel.

Essentially the welder setup time is included in the Mitchell CEG time for the panel replacement, but the destructive test welds are not. Currently we are providing SGI with our recommendations for the time allowance for doing these weld test and we hope to have a firm written policy available to be distributed to the industry in the next 4 to 6 weeks,

In the meantime I have attached a copy of Honda’s Destructive Weld test procedures and you can follow this link from ICAR to get more general information on Destructive Weld Tests

I also had another great meeting this past week with the guys from Estimate Scrubber and they showcased their latest offering called “Scrubber Wiki”. It is like Wikipedia where users can post information to a common web base for all users to see. Our goal is to have our users post things like repair tips, OEM repair procedures, SGI specific guidelines - some specific to the make and model you are working on and some general in nature. The guys in Manitoba are doing the same for their Scrubber program and we have plans to populate the database with help from a couple of guys in each province.

If you have not tried the Estimate Scrubber program, I highly recommend that you give it an honest try with a one-month free demo. Frankly, we need more users in Saskatchewan, and we need your feedback to fine tune the Saskatchewan offering. My friend Norm Bruneau from St Claude Manitoba has spent a lot of time tweaking the Manitoba version and they have several enhancements that we will be adding in the next few weeks.

If you want to give Estimate Scrubber a test run send me an email at dir@s-a-a-r.com and I will set you up.
