THE UNLOVED

 B E N  R E M E M B E R

Ben remember returns to Toolroom after a 12 month hiatus but its his work behind the scenes that his peers knew another huge tune was only just around the corner. Head tutor at the Toolroom music academy and the creator of the recent online crazy – the bottle challenge, making a tune completely from a glass bottle are just some of his vibes bubbling away in the background in recent times. The record itself is very special. A housier sound that Ben’s usual vibe and one that really grabs hold of you with catchy vocals, big synths and THAT piano breakdown! A huge release from an unsung hero of dance music, take notice people. DRW 10/10.

FATBOY SLIM  ANNOUNCES FREE LIVE SHOW FOR NHS STAFF
English DJ and electronic music producer Norman Quentin Cook was a pioneer of the ’90s big beat movement, issuing a handful of era-hits like “The Rockafeller Skank” and “Praise You” under the moniker Fatboy Slim. Formerly the bassist for the Housemartins and one-third of acid house hitmakers Pizzaman, Cook started by releasing his Fatboy material through club staple Skint, with his raucous blend of house, acid, funk, hip-hop, electro, and techno adding to his already formidable reputation as one of the foremost all-around producers on the U.K. club scene. Born Quentin Leo Cook in Bromley on July 31, 1963, he joined the Hull-based pop group the Housemartins in 1986, replacing founding member Ted Key. After the group split the following year, Cook became involved with the burgeoning acid house scene, pairing with producers Tim Jeffrey and J.C.
MICHAEL FRANTI  CLINGS TO ETERNAL OPTIMISM
A musician, humanitarian, and filmmaker who is recognized as a pioneering force in the music industry. Franti is revered for his hi-energy live shows, inspiring music, philanthropic efforts, and his authentic connection to his global fan community. Franti believes in using music as a vehicle for positive change, stating “I feel a deeper sense of purpose in music today than I ever have in my career. My goal is to make the most inspiring music I possibly can for this crazy and wonderful time we’re all living in. It’s 85 degrees at 10 p.m. on yet another uneventful Friday night, and Michael Franti finds himself exactly 8,327 miles from his San Francisco home. And, in his words, it’s nothing short of surreal. “We came to the little hotel we own for a yoga retreat and while we were there, the entire world changed,” Franti, 53, tells PEOPLE from Bali.
BALI MUSICIANS APPEAL  FROM THE GOOD FOLK AT THE ORCHARD BALI
As you will know, the live events sector has been hit with devastating impact. In fact, the events and hospitality sectors have been decimated on a global scale. In pretty much every country live music performances have come to a very abrupt halt. That means that not only artists and musicians have had their income reduced to zero, but all the people that were employed making gigs and concerts happen. Waiters and bartenders, chefs and kitchen hands, sound engineers, performers of every shape and genre, publicists and garbage collectors, security staff and cashiers, venues and delivery drivers, and the countless back-of-house staff that nobody sees, but without whom a gig, concert or any event doesn’t take place.

PROJECT NASI. FROM SURFERS TO FAMILIES
Surfers are feeding the people of Bali…now you can too. Nasi is the Indonesian word for rice, the sacred staple of any meal here in Bali. Which is why surfer/restaurateurs Sam Mahony and James Foley chose Project Nasi as the name for their grassroots efforts to help feed the disadvantaged during the Covid-19 Lockdown here on the Island of the Gods. With the beaches closed and zero overseas visitors, the impact of this global pandemic has been devastating to the local communities that depend on surfing and surfers for their daily bread. Which is what inspired Mahony and Foley to turn their restaurants into “Crisis Kitchens”—impromptu aid stations where the local community can drop by and pick up individual recyclable paper bags.
