Following the British Orienteering Federation announcement, details can be downloaded here. Claro are proud to announce a short series of Summer events.
The format initially will be similar to our Street-O series: a 45 minute score event – visit as many “controls” as you can, and get back to the start/finish point in 45 minutes. There will be a points penalty for getting back late.
The scoring system is 20 points per control, and 10 points penalty for each minute or part minute late finish.
There are now 3 events ready to run, two in Harrogate and one in Knaresborough, we would love one to be done from Ripon . So if you download the maprun app on your phone, tap the 'Events near me' button on the MapRunF app you should now see four local events available. If you live out in the sticks, somewhere like Knaresborough then you can will need to go via the Select Event button to via the UK and NorthYorkshire folders.
It would also be nice to see someone other than Quentin leading the field, so all those young orienteers back from University you know what you need to do
The 4 events on the system ( In addition to Harrogate 1 that has been available for some time )are .
1. Valley Gardens the map can be downloaded from our MapRun page of the website. This will allow you to get to know MapRun and is all within the park so great for juniors.
2. The Prologue event starting from Stray Rein
3. The Knaresborough event starting from outside the swimming pool
4. Harrogate South West starting from Trinity Church
There are 3 more events planned but we are happy to add more especially one in Ripon.
From 17th June Pannal Planned by Tim,
From 24th June Harrogate Planned by Ruth.
From 1st July Cold Bath Road area planned by Edwyn.
Clearly you need to abide by the rules currently in force when you run which at the time of writing are exercise by yourself, with members of your current household, or one friend who you must remain socially distant from . Our recommendation would be early morning or early evening when it should be quieter.
Aire have also started a similar series of 4 events which are already online to download, details of which are here
Claro SI Team
At the latest committee meeting Allen Banister advised that his house had now sold and he will be leaving shortly . This means we urgently need someone who can take over as SI lead , if anyone is interested in taking over please can they contact myself or Allen. The main requirement is a bit of IT knowledge and availability for some of the club events. There is a good team who can run the SI on the day but as most of them are already on the committee we really need someone new to take over from Allen.
Congratulation ( Or Will Drewe Writes )
Emilia Rose Drewe was born on 8th June weighing 9lbs 3oz. Liz, Will and Charlotte are all very proud of their new little girl, as are grandparents David and Elaine Day.
It’s hoped that Emilia may have a bright orienteering future ahead of her after contributing to Liz’s YHOA W35 Middle (Brimham Rocks) and Long (Wombwell) victories in autumn 2019
Coming up
No normal style events planned at the moment but see the article above about Maprun
Also look at the EBOR site and the DVO site for a weekly puzzle. CLOK have a weekly on line quiz and there are many more. As above there are also some ideas on the Claro site.
YHOA fees
You may recall from the last newsletter we mentioned that we had contributed some of the YHOA refund to help with Charlotte Myers Fundraiser for headbands for local NHS staff including those treating her dad Neville. Pictured is some of the headbands in use
Charlotte has now closed the fund in her words. More details are here
'With over 230 headbands now completed and sent to staff all over York Hospital, York Care Homes and a care home in Lincolnshire, I am now stopping. Frontline staff will still need to protect themselves against COVID, however I feel this venture has come to a natural end.
Thank you so so much to everyone who donated! I received such amazing feedback on how the headbands have helped and put smiles on the faces of the staff. Thank you all, couldn’t have done it without you!
To those who know my Dad, he is doing well and is very determined in his approach to his recovery.
Stay safe x
Claro Running Vests
You too could look this good if only you got yourself a Claro running vest. Super lightweight so ideal for the kind of glorious weather the UK gets during lockdown. Ruth wears a Women’s Small, Davy a Men’s Large and Quentin a Men’s Medium. Available from Ruth.
Junior League
The last event of the Junior League was supposed to be the club picnic in the Pine Woods on the 27th June. Clearly at the moment we do not know if we will be able to proceed with this but we will keep you posted.
Items for the newsletter
We have set up an e-mail address news@claro-orienteering.org.uk for you to send items to the newsletter should you want to promote any event, provide results , or a plug for a report or article you have done for the website. I will do a quick scan for results but would be more than happy to receive them from the competitors.
