COVID-19 Update

Hello Kitchissippi readers! Here’s an important update from our team:

Kitchissippi Times has shifted operations due to COVID-19. As a result, the printed product is suspended for May, June and July. There will be no physical or digital copy of the paper. However, Kitchissippi Times is still up and running. We're shifting our efforts and publishing stories directly online at www.kitchissippi.com and on our social media channels. We will keep you posted as things develop this spring/summer. Please continue to send us story ideas, letters to the editor and anything else about our favourite Ottawa neighbourhood.

Stay safe and thank you for your support!
Don't miss these stories on kitchissippi.com...

Battle of the bakers

Two families in Hintonburg have been engaged in a full-blown baking war since mid-March. At any given time, they surprise deliver homemade treats to each other's doorstep. Through the pandemic, they've explored their love of baking and connected more as neighbours and friends. Read more on this sweet story!

'Vital lessons'

In the wake of George Floyd's death, we asked our local politicians for a comment on the ongoing, global anti-racism protests and racism and discrimination in Canada. Read more from Coun. Jeff Leiper, MPP Joel Harden and MP Catherine McKenna on addressing systemic racism in our ward, city and country today and on developing allyship.

Sponsored: Staying on the safe side

As restaurants and stores in Hintonburg and Wellington Village start to re-open, the safety of customers and staff is of paramount concern. Merchants are embracing the need for masks, hand sanitizer, face shields, barricades and additional cleaning. And we're seeing innovative ideas to help keep everyone safe and sound. Read more on the story here!

National Arts Centre - Canada Performs
“#CanadaPerforms is a $600,000 short-term relief fund that pays Canadian artists for their online performances. It was launched by Facebook Canada and the National Arts Centre to help ease the financial strain for Canadian artists impacted by the closure of performance venues across Canada related to COVID-19, and to lift the spirits of Canadians during the crisis. Artists who are selected will receive $1,000 and their online performance will be announced and listed on the NAC’s Facebook page.” Visit the National Art Centre’s website for more information.

Ottawa Live Music Streams!
This Facebook group was created during the pandemic “as a virtual venue to showcase our region’s musical talent.” There are live streams, and announcements of upcoming live stream performances, of artists from the National Capital Region.
