GETTING READY

MCF is ready … for the Fall 2020 semester!

I’m full of confidence and excitement about the upcoming semester, but there is an air of anxiety surrounding it all.  With MSU opening up campus under COVID 19 guidelines, MCF’s traditional ways of connecting with students have been challenged, shaking us out of our comfort zones and creating space for new ways to engage with students.  HOW we go about sharing real life with Jesus may have some challenges, but WHY we are doing this has not changed one bit.  Truthfully, we are more centered and confident on the WHY we want to share real life in Jesus.  For this we will turn to the one unified story of God’s love made real in the life of Jesus … a.k.a. The Bible.

Fall 2020 Spiritual Formation will be centered on How to interact with the Bible.  We will be using TheBibleProject.com as our main resource (especially if things go online like last semester) and will have the rhythm of Sunday Night discussion informing the Wednesday Night time of worship and speaking.  We will be utilizing the front yard for our times of worship in music and then moving into the MCF House for the times of teaching.   When the weather forces us inside, masks will be worn during worship with an emphasis on contemplative participation (non-vocal-singing).  One entrance, one exit and social distancing will be implemented in addition to scheduling changes of events (like Fall Retreat).  With the MSU guidelines in effect, we will be relying on the campus ministry philosophy of students bringing students to Jesus on a daily basis all the more; it’s not just about programming or events, but more about relationships and experiences together … even at a social distance.

Continue to pray and to give to MCF as we go into one of the most challenging times we’ve experienced.  The college years are already full of discovery, realizations, growing pains, and change; this air of anxiety surrounding it all makes this semester one of great importance in the life of MCF students.  May Jesus be real, the Spirit be active and the Father be glorified!

Getting the MCF and Whitnah (Girls’) Houses Ready

The GAP appeals for Spring 2019 through Spring 2020, brought in a little over $7,000 that has been used toward the MCF house basement and now these two emergency projects: rebuilding the back fire exit of the MCF house and addressing the water issue in the basement of the Whitnah Girls’ House.  The balance of the overall cost is being covered by the General Fund and special emergency giving.

WHITNAH (GIRLS') HOUSE UPDATE
As you can see, these projects were critical and affected the MCF property.  Please continue to give financially so that these repairs can be completed and the property restored for use.
Alumni Spotlight:  TOM & LOIS GREEN
This month two MCF alumni, Tom & Lois (Wooton) Green, will be celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary.  They were married August 23, 1970, at Grapevine Christian Church in Madisonville, KY.

Lois & Tom began dating in November 1969 while they were both seniors at Murray State.  Lois was very involved in the ministry of Murray Christian Fellowship, which had begun in the fall of 1968.  So it was natural that Tom began attending MCF with her.

Tom and Lois became engaged March 16,1970, and shortly thereafter they, along with 20 other students, participated in MCF’s first ever outreach trip to Owensboro Christian Church.  On August 23, several MCF students attended their wedding and helped with the reception, etc.

Tom and Lois made their home in Lexington, Ky., from 1970 to 1974 while Tom attended medical school at UK and Lois completed her master’s degree in education there.  Lois taught school in Jessamine County, Kentucky, and later in Louisville, Ky., after they moved there for Tom to complete his residency in Obstetrics/Gynecology at the University of Louisville General Hospital.

In 1978 they moved back to Murray where Tom began his 40-year career as a physician at Murray Woman’s Clinic.  Their son, Sam, was born in 1976 in Louisville and daughter, Karen, in 1978 in Murray.  Tom & Lois have continued to live in Murray where they serve at Christian Community Church.  They have also remained active in the ministry of MCF, serving on the board.

For the past two years they have been enjoying retirement and spending time with their eight grandchildren.

Seth ('03) & Wendy ('03) Frank would like to introduce Alice Maryland!  She was born January 9th, 8 lbs., 9 oz. and 20.5 inches long.  We're overjoyed with our bright-eyed little girl.  Henry is enjoying the novelty of Baby Alice though he suggested her name be Crayons instead.  After considering his suggestion, we're sticking with Alice.

Due to the COVID 19 influence on the MSU guidelines, there will be NO formal Homecoming gathering for 2020.
