MCF is ready … for the Fall 2020 semester!
I’m full of confidence and excitement about the upcoming semester, but there is an air of anxiety surrounding it all. With MSU opening up campus under COVID 19 guidelines, MCF’s traditional ways of connecting with students have been challenged, shaking us out of our comfort zones and creating space for new ways to engage with students. HOW we go about sharing real life with Jesus may have some challenges, but WHY we are doing this has not changed one bit. Truthfully, we are more centered and confident on the WHY we want to share real life in Jesus. For this we will turn to the one unified story of God’s love made real in the life of Jesus … a.k.a. The Bible.
Fall 2020 Spiritual Formation will be centered on How to interact with the Bible. We will be using TheBibleProject.com as our main resource (especially if things go online like last semester) and will have the rhythm of Sunday Night discussion informing the Wednesday Night time of worship and speaking. We will be utilizing the front yard for our times of worship in music and then moving into the MCF House for the times of teaching. When the weather forces us inside, masks will be worn during worship with an emphasis on contemplative participation (non-vocal-singing). One entrance, one exit and social distancing will be implemented in addition to scheduling changes of events (like Fall Retreat). With the MSU guidelines in effect, we will be relying on the campus ministry philosophy of students bringing students to Jesus on a daily basis all the more; it’s not just about programming or events, but more about relationships and experiences together … even at a social distance.
Continue to pray and to give to MCF as we go into one of the most challenging times we’ve experienced. The college years are already full of discovery, realizations, growing pains, and change; this air of anxiety surrounding it all makes this semester one of great importance in the life of MCF students. May Jesus be real, the Spirit be active and the Father be glorified!
