Happy August from K&A!
Hello Kids & Art Community,

As summer draws to a close, I cannot help but look back with gratitude at all of the support that we have received in the past few months. Our organization is fortunate to have had strong support from volunteers, artists, advisors, and community partners from the start. We are very lucky. What's "amaeyzing" is that in these past few months, our community has grown even larger and in so many different ways.

At UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital, we have been very lucky to have had multiple companies join us for volunteer days as a team. Our friends at Adobe (pictured above), Banana Republic, Craftbox (& soon The RealReal), bring their enthusiasm and energy to spread light and joy to the families at the hospital.

Our partners at Stanford Lucile Packard Children's Hospital sought us out to host an adolescent/young adult (AYA) workshop, knowing that we would create a fun and meaningful experience for these participants. In addition, as the hospital prepares to open its new in-patient pediatric oncology unit, they have invited K&A to have a permanent art display to celebrate and honor the contributions of our organization.

Internally at K&A, we have expanded our Board. We now have a Board of seven, headed by our Founder and Board Chair, Purvi Shah. Witnessing the efforts and dedication of these individuals who generously offer their knowledge and expertise has been deeply motivating. Stay tuned for some exciting events they have in store for K&A.

I truly could go on and on about the countless ways that K&A has felt supported by our community. For now, I'll just share a heartfelt "THANK YOU". Enjoy our August newsletter, and I hope you'll join us for an event or two in the coming months.

With deep gratitude,

Suzanne Yau
Executive Director
Evening of Art & Advocacy

On July 25th, Board Member, Rinat Goren, hosted a "Get to know Kids & Art Foundation" evening at her home in Woodside. Our Founder, Purvi Shah, and Executive Director, Suzanne Yau, shared about the beginnings of K&A and the future of the organization. Then we engaged in a wonderful conversation with author Elisa Camahort Page, discussing Art and Advocacy, one of the topics covered in her book Road Map for Revolutionaries: Resistance, Activism, and Advocacy for All. Thank you to all who came out to learn more about K&A.

Adolescent/Young Adult Photography Workshop at Filoli

Recently, Kids & Art got to spend the day outside in the sunshine at our AYA photography workshop. Hosted by Filoli in Woodside, the program was lead by Bay Area photographers Nathalie Strand and Beth Cataldo. Participants learned about perspective, composition and the importance of creating with intent. The lush flower beds and ornate iron gates of the estate served as inspiration for the young photographers as they climbed on top of benches and crouched down in the dirt to get different angles for their pictures. Two hours went by in a flash, with the participants asking for more opportunities to get together to practice their art. Big thank yous to Filoli for generously offering your space, to Stanford Child Life and AYA programs for asking K&A to host the workshop, to photographers Nathalie Strand and Beth Cataldo for sharing their expertise, and to all of the participants for taking part in this lovely experience.
