Talking community: my MLA Cafés
|
|
Over September and August, I held four two-hour MLA Cafés. They’re an opportunity to for me to hear from people across our community. The 1-on-1 conversations ran the gamut, from big picture ideas for our province to smaller improvements with high social impact that can be made locally.
I’d like to thank everyone that dropped by to share their ideas, and my thanks to Cafe Divano, Black Sugar, Gallagher’s Cafe, and the McDonalds in Burquitlam for hosting these events.
I'm holding another MLA Café this Saturday at JJ Bean in Suter Brook (#7 - 400 Capilano Rd) from 10am-Noon. And I’ll be holding more in the future. Stay tuned.

Touring the Parkland Refinery
|
|
In August, I toured the Parkland Refinery in Burnaby. Parkland is creating 1000 barrels per day of renewable fuel from tallow and canola.
The refinery currently supplies 25 percent of our transportation fuel in BC. Because of rulings that favouring exports by the National Energy Board (now renamed the Canadian Energy Regulator), expanding of TransMountain pipeline may actually reduce supply to the refinery. This may result in less gas being produced locally and increased gas prices here in the Lower Mainland.

Despite the pouring rain, Ioco Ghost Town Days was a great event for families to enjoy fun activities and to learn about the history of Port Moody. Thanks to the Port Moody Heritage Society. We’re lucky to have people dedicated to sharing their knowledge of our past with future generations.

Community members in Port Moody came together to honour and celebrate Helen and Rainer Daniels, owners of the beloved Gallery Bistro Port Moody which was devastated by the July 28 fire. They are committed supporters of arts and culture in the community.

Our Government is committed to developing new laws, standards, and policies to better support people with disabilities to live with dignity and to meaningfully participate in their communities. Accessibility legislation would empower government, persons with disabilities, and the broader community to work together to identify, remove, and prevent barriers. The Minister of Social Development and Poverty Reduction, Shane Simpson, would like your feedback in preparation for the development of new laws, standards and policies. Share your thoughts
