Ten Years of Education
This year, the GLK Student Fund celebrates ten years of scholarship and education support in Tanzania – ten years of supporting the education of some of East Africa’s most vulnerable students. Both the Tanzanian and American organizations were officially registered by their respective governments in May of 2009.

Those of you on our postal mailing list have received our annual update which included a special document naming all of the students we have sponsored throughout the years along with photos. If you did not receive this and would like to, please contact us at glkstudentfund@gmail.com.

In reflecting on these ten years, here are a few facts:

Our students were, for the most part, supported over multiple years - often over long courses of study. As of last month, we calculated a total of 430 "student years" paid for by GLK Student Fund. A "student year" equals one student for one year of scholarship assistance. For example, if we supported a student through primary school, that would involve eight "student years" at an approximate cost of USD 5,500.00.

All of those years of assistance eventually result in successful completion of studies. The numbers keep moving upward, but at November 2019, our past graduates counted:
   -Primary School: 15
      -Secondary School (all levels):  20
         -Vocational School: 20
-College (incl. Teacher & Nursing): 12
   -University:  12
Many of these graduates are now teachers, nurses, doctors, accountants, technicians.....

During 2019, 64 students are continuing their education with our support.

Our school resource program has given financial aid to Tanzanian schools in the following areas:
   -Building and supporting computer labs
      -Water projects
         -Laundry facilities
            -Latrine building
         -Farming and food projects
      -Earthquake relief

GLK has upheld a strong commitment to professionalism, transparency, and honesty.  We are proud of this record and encourage our supporters to review our records and financial information at either www.glkstudentfund.com or www.Guidestar.org (the official US nonprofit database).  GLK Student Fund is a Gold-level GuideStar parcipant, demonstrating its commitment to transparency.

Throughout the years, we have always managed - with the invaluable help of our volunteers - to keep overhead expense to a bare minimum thus channeling your donations directly into student scholarships.  Thank you to all who have and are participating.

Students with Linda Voss

December 3rd is Giving Tuesday. Take this chance to be generous. Support our students in their quest to gain an education.

A Note from Linda
GLK volunteer, Linda Voss, has visited our students in Tanzania. She has been particularly active in our work since her retirement as CFO and COO of Ally Corporate Finance, a business unit within Ally Bank.

A Note from Linda.....

Thanks to each one of you for supporting the GLK Student Fund over the past ten years. Your support may have taken the form of volunteering, donating funds, sponsoring students, praying, or providing encouragement. Whatever your involvement has been, you have helped make a difference in the lives of many people. You have directly helped the students that received scholarships, but also many others around them. The gift of education reaps life-long benefits and carries through to future generations. The support provided by the GLK Student Fund has definitely changed many lives.

As we celebrate our ten-year anniversary, we’d like you to consider doing something special for the GLK Student Fund. Some things you might consider in honor of the tenth anniversary are:

   -Sending an additional $10 / $100 / $1,000 as your situation allows
-Forwarding this newsletter to 10 of your connections with a note about why you support the fund and suggest that they consider making a donation.
-Designating the GLK Fund as a family charity for Christmas, perhaps in lieu of exchanging gifts.
-Posting on social media about why you support the GLK Student Fund and including a link to the GLK Student Fund website (www.glkstudentfund.com).
-Sending us other ideas for helping maintain and grow the Fund.

Gayle has put a tremendous investment into establishing and maintaining this fund for the past ten years. I met Gayle several years ago and was impressed with her story and what she is doing. I have been helping to support the fund in various ways since that time. I continue to be in awe of Gayle’s dedication and commitment to this fund.

This is the most impactful charity I have been involved with. I have directly seen the positive impact of the fund as I visited Tanzania with Gayle and met many current and former students and their families. These individuals are so grateful for the benefits provided by the GLK Fund. I know first-hand that the money donated goes directly to help the students, with minimal funds used for operating expenses or overhead.

Once again, thank you for your support. Please consider an extra gift this year in honor of the tenth anniversary of the GLK Fund, as your situation allows.

We look forward to continuing to work together to help make a difference in the world.
Give a Special Gift

If you would like to give a meaningful gift this season, make a donation to GLK Student Fund in honor of someone special.  We will send a lovely notice of the donation made in their honor.
