Thank you to the wonderful attendees, supporters, bakers, donors, and everyone who made this year’s Valentine’s Silent Auction and Dessert Buffet a tremendous success once again! This event is always a highlight for the Beagle Paws Rescue team, and we are grateful to see so many returning faces in the crowd each year and new ones too. This event is one of our largest fundraisers of the year and the funds raised will help countless dogs in need, so on behalf of the beagles, a big thank you to all involved!

Just like people, every dog is different and the amount of exercise they need is not one size fits all. We can all agree that regular exercise for our furry family members is important. Finding the right balance for you both will help ensure a consistent routine that has a lasting impact both physically and mentally for you and your exercise buddy.
Fear Free Happy homes recently shared this article on “How much exercise does your dog need?”

This winter has been a tough one in Newfoundland! With record-breaking storms and a seemingly never ending forecast of flurries, there has been a lot of snow to take care of in order to keep our shelter operational. We are so lucky to have had so much support from our community of volunteers this year! Thank you to everyone who has come out to help keep our shelter free of snow and ice for the beagles.
We rely on our volunteer team for everything from exercising the dogs at the shelter, to driving our beagles to veterinary appointments, to running our thrift store, and a whole lot of other duties in between! We sincerely appreciate the help of all our dedicated volunteers.

Volunteer Spotlight - Bertha Ivany
|
|
|
This month’s Beagle Paws Rescue Volunteer Spotlight is all about Bertha Ivany, who first became involved with Beagle Paws in October 2015. Bertha’s daughter, Emily, needed volunteer hours for high school and since the family owned a beagle that they had adopted from Beagle Paws many years before, Emily decided she wanted to volunteer with the organization and Bertha signed up to volunteer with her! Even after Emily completed her volunteer hours, Bertha decided to stay on the volunteer crew, as she really enjoyed spending time with the dogs. Now in 2020, Bertha’s son Brandon is in high school, and he is doing his volunteer hours with Beagle Paws too!
We asked Bertha about her favourite parts of being involved with Beagle Paws, and she said “I’ve had many favourite moments particularly the ones spent getting lots of beagle snuggles. I always enjoy seeing the dogs that I helped take care of at the shelter being adopted into loving furever homes and then seeing all the pics from their families in the FB group. It just melts my heart to see them living their best lives in a loving family!"
Bertha’s current furry family consists of a cat named Tilley and of course, a beagle named Tucker, who the family adopted from Beagle Paws in December 2017. Bertha says, “The best thing I enjoy about volunteering is getting to spend time with the beagles and seeing how happy, content and sociable they are! Even after some of them spent their whole lives living outside.”
Do you have time or a skill to share to help beagles in need? Beagle Paws Rescue is always seeking new volunteers! Roles include: Thrift Store helpers, shelter volunteers, foster families, dog walkers, drivers, fundraising assistants, and more. If you would like to get involved and find out how you can make a difference in the lives of beagles in need, visit us online at: www.beaglepaws.com/volunteer
