Thank You for Your Donation

We are incredibly grateful for YOUR support this past year for the Building for Beagles campaign.  We ended the year at 66% of our goal to purchase land and could not have done it without YOU. We are excited for 2019 and will be sharing updates with you throughout the year on our progress.

We would like to say a special thank you to our current sponsors for their continued support of the campaign.

Thank You JJ's Mom

We recently received an incredibly generous donation to the Building for Beagles fund for $10,000 in memory of JJ, a Beagle Paws Alumni.

Thank you so much JJ’s mom for this donation and we are thrilled to have JJ’s memory a part of the new Beagle Paws Adoption and Education Centre once opened. This donation will truly make an incredible difference in the lives of Beagle Paws’ rescues, and we are very grateful for the support of JJ’s family.

Thank You to the NL Association of CBDC

Thank you to the 15 CBDC offices who fundraised throughout 2018 for Beagle Paws!  This donation is even more special for the team at CBDC, as Beagle Paws was a passion of their chairperson who recently passed away.

Volunteer Spotlight

This month’s Volunteer Spotlight is about Allison Fox-Burke, who first became involved with Beagle Paws in January 2012. Allison has always been an animal lover, and after losing her beloved family pet, Dawnza, she wanted to give her love to a rescue. While at the shelter, Allison met Jessie, the beagle who stole her heart almost immediately! Six years later, Jessie is still with the Fox-Burke family and she loves to snuggle up with her rescue mom, Allison.

Besides adopting Jessie from Beagle Paws, Allison has volunteered her time in a range of different ways from airport runs, to walking in the Santa Claus Parade, to dog walking, to caring for fosters. She explained, “One of the many things I love about being a volunteer with Beagle Paws has been being able to foster senior dogs long term. I have a special place in my heart for senior animals and to be able to show them love in their later years brings me so much happiness and joy. I was blessed to care for George, Belle and Humphrey who all had various health issues and to care for them in their final years was something that I was so lucky to do.”

All of the wonderful volunteers at Beagle Paws, including Allison, make the organization’s mission possible. Allison had the following to say about her experience with Beagle Paws, “I just want to say how proud I am to be a small part in such a wonderful and dedicated group of people as the volunteers and founders of Beagle Paws. I look up to everyone there and have never seen a more loving and dedicated group of people who work so hard all with the same goal to love and care for such a beautiful breed of dog the beagle! I look forward to continuing to do all I can to educate people and continue helping any way I can.”

Paws for Thought

January is National Train Your Dog Month!  If you are struggling with training your furry family member, consider hiring a dog trainer to help.

Unfortunately, the industry itself is still unlicensed and unregulated so anyone can call themselves a dog trainer with no education and little to no experience.  For this reason, it is important to take the time to research not only the trainers themselves, but the different types of training techniques that they use before selecting a trainer.  Things have advanced significantly over the last several years in the training world and there are several things to consider.

To help get you started with your research, Companion Animal Psychology offers a very informative and detailed article on “How to Choose a Dog Trainer”.

Things discussed in this article include:

  • Qualifications to look for

  • Importance of continuing education

  • Methods used to train

  • Customer testimonials

  • And choosing classes and private dog training

Happy Training!
